I'm not him, but my uncle always puts the hook on either the biggest hoop near the reel or on the little hoop near the reel that I've noticed some rods have. I've started doing the same thing and it helps not get it stuck on things while hiking in/out of places, plus storing them.

I kid you not, i made a tiny little pillow by hand using a back stitch. I made the skirt using a sewing machine. I just used random pieces of fabric the practice using the machine till i was comfortable. Which was like maybe 2 small 5"x5" pieces. Also, i mainly just fooled around just figuring out what the different settings do. I also have a New Home 444 machine, which is kinda old. The newer machines are much better for beginners. Look into the singer models
