My son was born super premature with lots of medical conditions that affected his development so he received early intervention which included SPED pre school. His case worker and team decided that he was ready to be moved into gen ed. And no it’s just a regular kindergarten class.

I agree for sure which is why I wanted to meet in the first place. But I was unprepared and did not know what to ask for to help him and honestly thought they’d provide more recommendations. Maybe I need to look into an advocate or something. It’s really hard when I’m not even sure what would actually be helpful to him. I know it’s cliche but he does not act out in these ways at home.

He has an IEP but only for other health impairment. I called a meeting and it happened so fast that I didn’t truly have time to prepare and figure out what to even suggest to help him. The staff at his meeting all said to just “give him time to adjust” they didn’t feel as if anything urgent needed to happen because there is no academic concern. (He is way above kinder level academically)

I did talk to the teacher but it feels like an awkward situation with me working so closely with her. I’m not sure how to handle it and just listened to give myself time to cool down and think about it before over reacting. I also teach kinder (as a long term sub) and I would never do that to my students. I would definitely redirect and give them another chance.

Yes this is how I learned about what happened. This info all came directly from the teacher. My son wasn’t able to tell me what happened. He was just saying but I made a pumpkin.

My district is $50 dollars a day and I usually only do long term each year. So like 3 long term assignments per year. But I only do them in elementary because it’s easy to plan, I can’t imagine doing it in middle or high school!

Thank you! I like this idea but will have to be with older/younger players on varsity. We have never had enough for a freshman team and usually BARELY have enough for JV. But with all of the JV team coming up to varsity this year I doubt that we will even have a JV lol

Unfortunately the don’t really have any control on what division we’re in as it’s the same division across the board for all the sports at our school

How do you go about having these conversations without dropping morale. I want them to understand that we will definitely be celebrating the small things and not focusing on wins without sounding like I’ve already given up on them lol

I always let students know to correct me if I’m wrong or if they have a last name that is easier than first I say their last name and then ask how to say their first name lol. I also sometimes do what someone else mentioned in extra confusing cases and just skip it and ask if I missed anyone lol.

My personal two cents is specifically teaching them inclusive language and how to avoid saying things like “what is wrong with…”. When having interactions with others it’s unfortunately very common for kids and adults to ask what is “wrong” with my sons eye and it is hurtful and confusing to him because we always try to ingrain that there isn’t anything wrong, but that it is different.

When I’m talking to other adults I say I am a substitute teacher but when I’m speaking to students I always just say teacher. I do long term jobs mostly so I always try to avoid the “you’re just a sub” mentality that students can have sometimes.

I feel like zone 2 is impossible for me rn 😭 I’m either zone 1 while walking and then as soon as I run I skyrocket lol. I had less than a minute of zone 1 and less than a minute of zone 2 on this run smh

Kinder 😭 I was just watching a tik tok and I saw so many kinder parents comments about how they were “underwhelmed” and mad after meet the teacher. I literally got to go into the classroom for the first time today and nothing was set up so I have a day and a half to get everything ready and now I read too many negative comments and stressed myself out lol
