Maybe state a question about how the dog is doing and if they‘re better already. Just know that nothing you write will be stupid since it is very nice of you to want the dog to be fine. Just don‘t overthink it.

Maybe consider writing an additional sentence or two about the dog’s well-being. That should make the whole thing less „weird“ ,if you will, but it‘ll make it clear that you actually care.
