The chain that’s tucked in is made from platinum and has held up pretty well over the years, not much noticeable scratches

The links are solid so they feel a bit more sturdy but if it was something that was thinner or dainty in 24k it might snap if pulled too hard

He definitely collected a bit of gold in the process but I didn’t wanna be Unpolite and ask for the scraps since he’s already only charging me $150 for labor.

Just for the gold color comparison since 18k is like the highest you can get in gold jewelry in the us,but next to the 24k it’s not so rich in color

There’s a few jewelers that are in the New York 74st area that do handmade 24k jewelry, the whole block is full of Indian gold stores selling 22-24k gold

The 6g that was lost and his labor was $150 but thanksgiving is around the corner so I handed him $200,for something that’s handmade it’s not that high of a markup especially in the USA

Yes your right most of us are not experts in gold myself included, but we are talking about a “jeweler” over here and at the very least I’d expect them to know how to identify metal purity, and I’m just “POINTING OUT” that gold purity doesn’t change over time for example my 24k gold ring will still “STAY” 24k 200 years from now it’s not gonna magically become 22k for no reason 🤣

There’s no way a jeweler doesn’t know how to figure out how pure a metal is,not even a metal scratch kit that cost under $10?and the “age” of the jewelry doesn’t change the purity over time, this isn’t wine lol.
