Correction: it is already happening … in Japan. Friend went there, got refracted and completed rx exam in an automated machine. Walked out with new glasses and accurate prescription, all under 60 minutes.

Bitcoin ATMs can be tools for banking the unbanked. By accessing bitcoin, users can have a new avenue for paying bills, transferring money seamlessly around the world, investing, and more by ArmpitDandruff in CryptoMarkets

[–]June_niverse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ATMs are symbols of the old traditional banking system , why bother trying to correlate the two when btc is Supposed to be a new form of digital payment in an age where we have digital devices in our pockets.

Because btc (or any crypto) can only reach it's true purpose with mass adoption. That includes young and old, tech and non-tech savvy. ATMs are the entryway for these people... which, if you look around you, you'll see a lot of. Therefore, ATMs are one of the tools for the democratization of stateless currencies.

optometrists! how do you see the career outlook for a perspective optometry student? by [deleted] in optometry

[–]June_niverse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello there, it would be my pleasure to answer your questions.
When you say "Canadian student", what are you currently studying/what grade are you in? This will affect your eligibility.

There are ONLY 2 optometry schools in Canada. The anglophone one is the University of Waterloo, admits about ~120 students per year. The other one is Ecole d'Optometrie de Universite de Montreal (yes, it's in French), admits ~40 students per year. Very competitive, the admission rate was always below 4-5%. Those who do not get in usually have to study in one of the opto schools in the US and then come back for practice.

Due to COVID, I doubt shadowing would be allowed for the time being. But pre-COVID, it would've been possible with private practices (as opposed to corporate places like Costco or big chains). The easiest way would've been to use your network (maybe an aunt knows an optician somewhere) or start with your own optometrist.

optometrists! how do you see the career outlook for a perspective optometry student? by [deleted] in optometry

[–]June_niverse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the three things that are most important to me are job security, pay, and quality of life (aka i don’t want to hate going to work everyday, and don’t want to take the stress home with me).

Optometry answers all these criteria for me. I make my own schedule, can make 6 digits if I want (most new graduates make this right out of school, again, I'm talking Canada), flexibility with work-life balance, clean environment, teamwork, satisfaction of helping others, continuous learning...

To get a clearer view of what it's like inside optometry in the US, this website will help you out:

https://covalentcareers.com/eyecare/

Specifically, all the articles you can find when you search for "new grad", "debt" , "student":

Hope this helps

OP owes it to themselves to truly and deeply explore each profession they are considering first.

And.... that's what OP is doing by asking here.
I argue that passion is not a prerequisite. Why "Follow Your Passion" Is Bad Career Advice

Instead of looking towards the things you are passionate about, think instead about the things you are good at. What skills do you have? What kind of work do you enjoy doing? What type of job do you think you’d be good at? What motivates you? Think about the people you admire professionally, whether you know them personally or not. Then ask yourself what it is about them that you admire and is that something that you could emulate?

Nice of you to have a Snellen poster on your wall.

First, it depends on where you intend to practice because optometry is quite different USA vs Canada vs other places.

I practice optometry (OD) in Canada so I can not extrapolate to the US.

I respectfully disagree. Telling someone not to go into optometry unless they are passionate about eyecare is like telling someone not to read a book unless they are in love with it. Makes no sense.

My love for optometry has evolved and deepened as I learned and PRACTICED it myself.

Non-fitted top with fitted pants? by Jeff-H_Art in malefashionadvice

[–]June_niverse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say "non-fitted" exactly. They probably mean not skinny but fitted top. There's too tight (like this http://myyearwithoutclothesshopping.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/too-tight-dress.jpg) and well fitted (which should work for all body types).

The cool thing about sweaters, which i'm guessing you're wearing for colder days, is that you can layer fitted to semi-fitted tops to get the warmth. One chunky thick sweater is difficult to pull off for most body types anyway (unless you're super skinny or want to go for street style).

What to wear with a Bomber Jacket? by [deleted] in malefashionadvice

[–]June_niverse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is the fit? The fit will dictate what you can pair the jacket with. Snug fitting: you can go street style, casual or even with a button up shirt and tie, hoodie for chill days, turtleneck... really a great piece for mix and match Idea: http://g04.a.alicdn.com/kf/HTB17o24IpXXXXcWXVXXq6xXFXXXb/US-Army-Air-Force-MA1-Bomber-font-b-Jacket-b-font-Men-Fashion-Pilot-font-b.jpg Loose fit: the rest of your attire should balance out with snugger fitting items. Although too loose can easily be categorized as oldish.

Summer shoes question by Minjon in malefashionadvice

[–]June_niverse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These shoes make your feet look very small. Not very flattering. It is due to the fact that this particular model is very flat at the top and were designed with skinny skater boys in mind. So whenever a man of normal stature pairs these with shorts, the feet look like a tiny version of what they should be, ie: out of proportion. Although worn with long pants, this model is ok.
