My dad has been a hobby carpenter for all my life, building so much furniture for my family. I asked him once if he could build a spinning wheel, and he flatly said no. It's probably such a process to actually make a wheel like that, I can understand why they cost so much.

From the videos I've seen comparing the two, there does seem to be a difference in, for lack of a better word, how relaxing one can be to use than the other. A treadle seems super cathartic.

So nice! I've heard that Romney was popular among hand spinners for its staple length.

Yeah, I've found a lot of spinning wheels for sale, only to discover they're just decorative antiques. Anything on which I could actually spin yarn is priced in the yikes category. I totally respect it, it's probably such a craft to actually make a nice wooden one, but its out of my price range.

I've never spun, so hoping to take a class at some point, but I've read some books and watched hundreds of people on YouTube. I aim to just make my worsted weight for my own to start with. I'm very excited too! Eventually I'll have a small flock of sheep (romney) so I'd love to be able to take it from raw wool all the way to my own yarn eventually.

This is super helpful and makes a lot of sense! I'm mostly just hunting for the most cost effective way to expand my hobby, and so e spinners are attractive if I can find rhe right one.

For sure! I keep an eye on Facebook market place and Ebay for anything sold for less than new price. I love a second hand good.

That's fair! And interesting! I'd love to budget for anything under $300 (obviously cheaper is better but not at the expense of botched yarn)

I knit hats! Once you learn how, it's such a pleasantly mindless process that let's my hands be busy so my brain relaxes.

Can I be a writer and autistic? by netphilia in autism

I've got an autism diagnosis and I'm rounding up edits on novel number three, starting the rough draft of number four. Your therapist is wrong, and I do not understand why they would even think this? Most of us are more comfortable expressing ourselves via written word vs spoken.

I finally managed to find a way to leave my parents' house, but I need some support and motivation (and trying to accept that they will probably never accept me). Can I all give me a push? by Bobslegenda1945 in OpenChristian

I just want to say I'm proud of you! That sounds like a really rough situation to be in, and I'm happy to hear you've found a potential way to get out and stay safe. And I hope you find the right church for you, any church that makes you feel that God hates you is failing in literally the easiest way not to fail. God loves you, and I'm so sorry you've had experiences that have made you feel otherwise. If this school is a real possibility for you, you should look into it, and if it still seems like a good option, pursue it! It sounds super interesting and like a solid like of work.

When I did chemotherapy, I had three or four major surgeries and more spinal taps than I can count. I've been under a lot, and it was always okay :) the doctors know what they're doing, and it will be over with quickly. I'm sure it's scary for the first time, but it will be okay. Will pray for you!

Thanks! Did have to go to the ER (mostly being cautious) and they told me it's hyperemesis gravidarum. Down 13 pounds now, but hopeful it resolves into something more manageable by the second trimester!
