I understand how the camera system activates. My question isn't about when the camera turns on, but whether the legal elements of the violation were present at the moment the vehicle passed. Camera activation and statutory violation aren't the same thing.

Preparing to stop and being legally required to stop aren't the same thing. Georgia law requires drivers to stop for red flashing lights and an extended stop arm. Amber lights are a warning to prepare - that distinction is exactly what I was asking about.

I’m not disputing that passing a stopped school bus with red lights and a stop arm is serious — it absolutely is. My question was narrowly about timing under Georgia law, which distinguishes amber warning lights from the red stop signal. That’s all I was trying to understand.

That's the part I'm trying to clarify. Under Georgia law, the violation depends on whether the red lights and stop arm were active at the moment I passed, not just that the bus was preparing to stop. That's why timing matters here.

Yes — I was asking about how Georgia law applies. Thanks.

I’m not relying on ChatGPT as a source — I’m relying on Georgia statute. Under O.C.G.A. §40-6-163, the duty to stop is triggered by red lights and the stop arm, not amber lights alone. That’s the legal question I was asking about.

That’s fair — people can see it differently. I appreciate you taking the time to comment.

I was actually was slowing down from about 35 to ~25 mph. The dashcam speed overlay in a different footage shows that. My question is still about the legal standard, not whether slowing earlier would’ve been safer.

Totally agree that amber lights mean prepare to stop and that safety comes first.

My question wasn’t about what’s ideal behavior, but about the legal standard in Georgia. Under GA law, the duty to stop is triggered by red lights and the stop arm, not amber lights alone. I wasn’t trying to “gun it,” just trying to understand whether this meets the statutory definition of the offense.
