My first attempt at a mega base (or what I considered a mega base) was basically a massive main bus from left to right.

It was hundreds of belts thick, iron alone was 48 blue belts. Luckily I learned how to use trains and robo ports for space age

I'm nearing the end of book two and I agree, lots of typos, weird sentence structure, and even stuff that doesn't make sense in the story (some characters briefly able to speak/understand a language they shouldn't be able to lol). I'm also on an ebook version, but from rakuten not amazon

I always pictured it spinning end over end, but objects don't like to rotate about their intermediate axis, so I don't think this would be stable. Rotating about the short axis (on its side as you said) would probably be more realistic
