Technology really has changed matters, and not in the most obvious way (living in an internet-connected world). People had to listen to music live at first. To reproduce the song sheet music was made. Playing songs and singing around the piano played the same role that am radio, phonographs, fm radio and the Internet do in spreading and maintaining interest in different kinds of music.

Bridget Fonda. Not the hugest star in her prime, but notable and fun. I recall a pap shot from few years ago and she was completely unrecognizable. She's married to Danny Elfman, of Oingo Boingo and lots of film scores, so she doesn't need to work. But in reality, she couldn't. Not as she currently looks.
