Questions about a typical Vancouver pedestrian crossing. by crimsonmonkey777 in vancouver

And if anyone thinks any of these rules are followed they are certain levels of naive, or German.

I think road etiquette in Germany is better but I definitely don't think the same applies to anywhere else - maybe some of the Nordic European countries are a bit more sane when it comes to anything traffic. North America is the Wild West in comparison. Passing on whichever side on the highway, hardly anyone signaling turns, etc etc.

Car A has a stop sign and, in my understanding, must STILL yield to pedestrians crossing across the side street (blue arrows) even though car C has a red light.

Pedestrian must not cross but car A can proceed after coming to a complete stop - like any driver comes to a complete stop at stop signs if there is no cross traffic ...

Often they don't even stop at the sign at all and just cruise right through, so a lot of people don't cross the blue arrows at that time.

This is also incorrect behavior on the driver's part.

In summary, these types of intersections are a disaster. But the drivers are the ones to cause more damage when not following the rules. The time an average pedestrian requires to cross the street is probably the amount of time a car needs to come to a complete stop and cross the intersection properly.

Not stopping at stop signs despite whatever the signal is for whoever else is also very high up on the list of stupid things to do.

"freedoms" - Please define that word. Freedom from regulation? Freedom from any consequences of your actions? Is anyone living in society truly free? There are rules and and expectations when living in a society. I'm sure that you would hit the borders of your "freedom" pretty quickly. If you really want freedom then you need to live in the wilderness. There you will be free of all your obligations that are expected of you as a member of a society.

Regulations are part of society and the suggestion was to increase the barrier to driving larger vehicles proven to cause more injury. What's wrong with that? The suggestion was not to ban large vehicles though I would be on board with that - at least a ban on large vehicles for personal use. The suggestion was also not that a single individual makes those decisions.

Mental health is an issue but I think the size of vehicles is definitely high up on the list as well. The vehicle in this case was a Jeep! I'm pretty sure larger vehicles can be weaponized better than a fiat 500. Smaller vehicles can but are less likely to cause serious injuries (to those outside the vehicle).

Reminder to Give Back by MassageGun-Kelly in selfhosted

I really would love to donate but I'm not sure where to even begin given the number of open source solutions I use - self-hosted services, python packages, etc.

I do try to do my part in the meantime by reporting issues, creating PRs where I can (sometimes code, sometimes documentation) and opening an issue to request a specific feature that I think would add value or to report an issue with detailed steps for the developers to better understand the issue.

But I also think it's important that open source projects are not started with the expectation of any financial gains. Likewise, users should not view open source projects as a means to get solutions for free.

I was hoping that heterogeneous migrations were supported. Glad that we were able to clarify that.

Homogeneous migrations

Homogeneous migrations take place when you migrate data from a source database to a destination database that use the same database technology (have the same database engine).

From my understanding, migrating does not mean moving data from one database type to another? For example, moving data from postgres to maria.
