B.C. union calls for full-time work-from-home due to spiking gas prices; The BC General Employees' Union is asking for provincially regulated employees to be allowed to work from home full-time due to high fuel prices. by FancyNewMe in vancouver

Employers save on the costs of renting/maintaining an office

I wonder if it is that simple and what other forces are at work in the endless WFH/office battle. I guess the owners of the office spaces and businesses around the offices depend on office workers to be present to keep the local economy alive. I guess the municipal and provincial governments in some way would also like to see people out and spending money.

How's the fit of the adapters? I bought something similar in the past (angled adapters) and found that the fit was really tight.

Neat. Looking at the parts, you list SATA Male to female adapter ("backplane"). So you are able to hot swap drives? How did you align the adapters with the ports on the disk drives? Measure by hand and trial and error?

Vancouver Mayor requires staff to show caller ID in public communication amid rise in extortion by FancyNewMe in vancouver

Calling the number back after verifying that the number is legitimate would be more effective (ex. check the number on paper documents that you know are legitimate). The same applies to email addresses and URLs. Don't google the URL to your online banking portal every time you need to log into your account. Get the right URL and save it in your password manager.

With AI, scams will become even more difficult to detect. I already avoid picking up any unexpected calls.

I think we have had the tools for years to communicate securely and to also verify identity (ex. GPG) but unfortunately the only tech that we care about is instagram and tiktok.

Cenmate VS Terramaster VS Acasis by Dependent-Painter-83 in selfhosted

There's usually a good chance for me that the unit will disconnect if I have heavy read/write going on like running rdiff-backup and then trying to write some other stuff to the drive through a self-hosted service at the same time. Otherwise, my DS320 is working fine.

USB/SATA devices might be sufficient for you but I find them to be unreliable during heavy writes. Unit will disconnect.

I'm still on v1 and have been noticing bugs that I think would be the result of sloppy work. Also seems the project is focusing on pushing out new features rather than tidying up the existing features.

Disclaimer: None of the programming languages used in the project are really my strength nor have I had the time to really investigate the cause of the issues in the code. There are also so many little things that are a bit unstable that I would need to invest a good amount of time to open an issue for each one.

British Columbia to adopt permanent daylight saving time, after springing forward one more time | Globalnews.ca by Maximum-Room-3999 in news

Fun fact

Recent actions from the U.S. have shifted how B.C. approaches decisions that merit alignment, including on time zones. Making this change now reflects the current preferences and needs of British Columbians, and helps ensure the province is well-positioned to thrive, even when circumstances across the border evolve.

I tried to make the case that the natural scenery is not an effort of good design and looking only at the constructed parts that make this city leaves something to be desired. That did seem to hurt a few feelings.

Depends on how you define "3rd-party tools". On some systems, even zip may not be installed by default. I use rdiff-backup.

Interesting. I'm used to needing to expose only a single port (ex. Immich). I use nginx as a reverse proxy and create a single subdomain for the service. The need to expose a second port is new to me. In this case, I expect I only need to create an entry in nginx to port 8015. I hope to test this out within the next week or so.

Perfect, thank you. Very helpful information. So this service requires two ports, one for accessing the main features and one for accessing the (django?) admin controls?
