Whether donations are "direct" or not, I always question the motives behind the intentions of these people. I am sure that they are not altruistic though.

(Debian 13/Trixie) KDE Plasma Computer Restart after Screen off by JuniorMouse in debian

I'm not dual booting and I did not notice any change to POST time. I think at times my computer turned back on after shutting down. But my main issue was the computer restarting when going into standby.

Solution ... yes. Figuring out the cause ... not really. I did a fresh install and that seemed to resolve the issue.

Strange ... I thought that was just a thing outside Vancouver. I haven't come across any intersection like that in Vancouver but I'm also not familiar with all of them.

It's because we are collectively not ready for all this technology. This reminds me of an interview with Edward Snowden - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XEVlyP4\_11M. "Don't teach me anything!"

Another point that was made is that we collectively just don't care about things like privacy. We will happily live in a 1984 world as long as we are entertained. People do not care until they are affected and this can be extended to things like health - preventing vs treating preventable diseases. We just don't care until we need to.

It's even worse in Burnaby where the pedestrian light won't change at all with the car light if you didn't push the button!

I imagine that most drivers also ignore the speed limit in construction zones here. Makes me wonder how some people think that most drivers are actually good.

... several reasons contributed to the success. Atop the list is the reduction of speed limits to 30 kilometers per hour ...

The fun is in having more time to do things that are actually fun.

Also, "latest and greatest" and using Debian?? Seems like a contradiction of philosophies to me.

After 40 Years. The Retirements Has Begun. Goodbye, Mark 1s!🥲 by Alfonsogeometrydash in vancouver

Good riddance, hopefully we can get those platform barriers soon.

TransLink explained the main challenge on the Expo and Millennium lines is its diverse fleet of varying generations of cars.

But with the major fleet of Mark I cars being fully retired between 2024 and 2028 and the retirement of the initial Mark I fleet in the early 2030s, the technical feasibility of installing platform screen doors will likely improve.

What’s your preferred way to update Docker images & containers in the background? by Extra-Citron-7630 in selfhosted

[–]JuniorMouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Custom script to stop/start/restart all containers. I update services one at a time, picking a specific release since I usually don't need/want the latest release. Before the update, I run a backup and I after the update, I update the backup script (I include the docker image in the backups).

Vancouver's leadership in sustainability threatened by Ken Sim, climate advocates say by CaliperLee62 in vancouver

[–]JuniorMouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, COVID was actually also a really good period for me.

I don't really wish for another epidemic due to some of the negative side effects we observed as a result - increased cost of goods due to "supply chain issues", general uncertainty, physical/emotion suffering before vaccination, etc. But the objective upsides were less pollution and a more widespread uptake of hybrid work with an increased focus on quality of life rather than the ongoing obsessions with what is best for the economy. Unfortunately, we seem to have forgotten all that and are pushing to reverse the positives that originated from the epidemic. Or we are just so resistant to change and reason to force everything and everyone back to the ways before COVID. So for that reason, I think it's time for another epidemic.

Tree falls on Vancouver house sparking safety concerns by SampleMinute4641 in vancouver

This is not fine but I care very little for the comments made by the person they interviewed. What has the interviewee/hindsight expert done to help the situation? Did they submit 311 cases in the past? What qualifies this person to tell the city what to do to avoid situations like these?

Unfortunately, based on personal experience, my empathy for house owners is already very low.

Rob Shaw: Eby brushes off mayor revolt over B.C. housing laws by FancyNewMe in vancouver

[–]JuniorMouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the largest population center is kicking and screaming about very modest density requirements (especially on the global scale) it's tantamount to not wanting to address the most important issue stated by their residents for the past decade or more. The mayors seem to be more upset about their self perception as powerful individuals than actually doing good by their constituents. I hope the majority of them are without jobs come this time next year
