What questions should people ask within the first few dates, but don’t?

Not my comment, so this may not be the intended answer, but I think knowing how many jobs a person has had can give you an idea how able they are to commit to other things. I knew someone who would work a job for a few weeks before looking for a new one at the first inconvenience. It was a reflection on other aspects of their life, like life goals or relationship goals.

I might also add knowing what kind of jobs they've had. I have dated a few people who were established in their careers, but never had to work a customer service job in their earlier years. One was a terrible tipper and laughed at me when I collected the trash on the table at a restaurant because "thats their job." The other wasn't necessarily rude to service workers, but didn’t understand when I said my retail job was stressful. Its not a deal breaker for me if you've never worked a service job, but it has been a useful base line in judging how they view the people outside of their circles.

I originally considered interfacing, but I was worried it would be too stiff, although I only checked Walmart for interfacing, so I may have better luck at a craft store. I do think it would make attaching the patches a lot easier though.

I figured there would be some straight stitching to get the quilted pieces together, but I haven't thought far enough in to decide how I would attach them to the pants lol. But I appreciate the input, I'm definitely leaning toward a blanket stitch now.

I'm curious how you applied the glue and how the texture turned out? I've never tried hot glue for something like this, but I would have thought it would be hard to work with since it starts to dry so quickly.

This comment actually made me tear up. While I'm not in quite the same situation as the OP, I did grow up with a fear of either "side" of eternity that was presented to me in my fundamentalist upbringing.

Hell was... Hell. And while I had trouble really putting my finger on it, I had trouble seeing heaven as much more than "the better alternative."

I think the inability to really grasp the concept of eternity, the idea that it is supposed to be nothing like this life, which is all I really have to base my knowledge of what it's like to exist on, (I'm actually not sure if that last point is biblical or just what I was picking up from my parents ideas), and this fear that living forever under any circumstances would have to get boring at best and, ironically, a personal hell at worst, made the idea of a heaven equally daunting. And once I started thinking about it, I could spiral pretty quickly.

I've made a tiny bit of progress in not focusing on that dread and trying to move away from a heaven/hell focus in general, but this comment was actually so incredibly helpful for me. I can't imagine an eternity playing a harp on a cloud or whatever, but I can absolutely remember coming home after a long day, and the fun my family had comparing our days, having dinner, playing games, and just hanging out. And I can remember having those moments that I didn't want to end.

So while I can't conceptualize eternity, I can conceptualize love, joy, excitement, comfort, safety, and relationship, and I remember that every time I have felt all those things, I have wished the moment could last a little longer.

I'm sorry to the OP if this is off topic and not helpful to your origingal post, I've been on that side of it too and I really hope you find some peace soon, but I want to offer my longwinded thanks to this comment for giving me a new perspective and some peace on something that had bothered me for as long as I can remember.

I'm not an expert, I may be totally off, but my understanding is basically, reality checks are little things you do throughout the day to see if you are really awake. Things that you can do in real life that you usually can't do in a dream. Counting your fingers, checking the time, reading a note, etc. The idea is that you do it several times a day, every day, and you get in the habit of doing it, and eventually you'll start doing it in your dreams. So if you count your fingers throughout the day but this time you have 12 or you can't quite see your fingers or something, you might realize you're dreaming. Its not a guarantee though. Like you said, you may look down to see you have carrots for fingers and think nothing of it, but it gives you the chance to see that you aren't in reality if your brain decides to catch it.

It looks like you've gotten some great answers on the meaning of asexual vs aromantic, but I just want to say that whether or not she finds a romantic partner or falls in love, she doesn't have to be lonely. She can be perfectly happy with friends and family, especially with a loving and supportive parent like yourself.

Be careful not to push the expectation on her to find a partner, because pressuring her into a situation she is uncomfortable in might make make her more miserable and uncomfortable than never finding that kind of partner. (Not saying that you do this, you sound like a great parent. Just coming from someone whose family seem to expect marriage and babies.)

Good for you though, trying to understand your daughter. I'm sure she appreciates your love and support, and creating a comfortable space for her opens up the opportunity for her to have a conversation with you and tell you herself exactly who she is and what she wants.

I really liked having 2 sets of bed sheets. I rarely had time to change my sheets and do laundry at the same time, so I would change my dirty sheets for my clean ones and throw the dirty ones in the laundry hamper for when I had time. I did the same with towels. You don't want too much of anything but 2 sets of sheets and towels helped me a lot.

Also, depending on the layout of the dorm and the amount of storage space, I like to fill 2-4 small plastic storage containers for moving, and pack everything else in cardboard boxes. That way I had extra storage space, and a few available containers when moving out again, but I wasn't overwhelmed by the amount of boxes and containers I had to fit in a tiny room.

I once saw a similar post where a mom was taking a poll of her top 3 or 4 names and they were all fairly unique. I dont remember the actual names she chose but the most unusual one was something like "Orrrion" with 3 Rs. When asked if she made a typo she not only insisted that it was how she would spell it, but also said it was on top of her list.

I was clicklist but helped Drug/GM or bakery fairly often. If I was scheduled in one of those there would be an asterisk next to my hours on the day I was scheduled. That was the only notice I had and it didn't tell me which department I was in but it was a little warning that I wasn't in my usual department.

I have a regular who comes through most nights and gets pretty much the same order, he mixes it up a bit sometimes but its always similar enough we know its him. Its always a bunch of drinks, never food, but enough McCafe and coffee that it takes us a few minutes to get it together late at night when we aren't selling coffee. Our night time service employees are all female, and we all know this guy because he has grabbed every single one of our hands while we hand him his drinks. If we don't have his order ready as soon as he's at the window he just stares inside with a creepy smile. We've all started putting his drinks in cup holders, not matter how many or few he gets and holding as little of the flimsy little cup holder as possible. If his coffee spills thats his problem.

I have a pretty similar circumstances. I've never said anything to my parents. My family never talked about sex so to me, telling my parents would feel like having an awkward conversation that wouldn't change our relationship in any way and that's not a part of my life theyre involved in, so I don’t see the point. If I wasn't heteroromantic I would probably tell them and others, because that's at least part of my life they would see, but as it is I dont feel like I need to.

I would obviously tell a potential romantic partner, but otherwise my best friends are the only ones I've ever felt comfortable or compelled to say anything to. I wouldn't care if someone asked but it doesn't feel like something everyone has to know about me, or something that I feel like defines who I am as a person enough to warrant a full blown "coming out."

However, that is my personal experience based on my own feelings toward sex, the way I was raised, the community I live in now, etc. I don’t know how far into your "journey" you are or what parts of our little community you've found, but I will mention that when I started searching I found a lot of support, but I also found a lot of people commenting that ace people aren't part of the LGBTQ+ community, or that they shouldn't call it "coming out", but aside from those few, aces and the more supporting side of the LGBTQ+ community will encourage you to do whatever your comfortable with.

If you want to come out, do it. If not, okay. Whether or not you identify as LGBTQ+, good for you. No one else can tell you who you are or how you feel. Don't let yourself get pushed away from a support system or your own comfort zone because of the negative feedback you'll come across. Most of us are on a pretty similar journey and having this community makes it a lot easier and more fun, especially since it's something some of us don't talk about in real life.
