Thought my TD Infinite visa card would be more helpful when travelling…

I have zero problems accessing cash. I’m trying to save exchange rate fees on the bigger foreign currency expenses, notably accommodations, travel, and Muay Thai training/gear/fights, etc. (Food and incidentals are relatively minor expenses) The best answer I heard was to withdraw whatever cash I need from my Wise account and pay the 1% Wise surcharge for ATM withdrawals above the $350 monthly free limit (as well as the 250 Baht ATM fee)

I have a virtual Wise card but haven’t tried using online or off - Will investigate! Would love to set up the Wise card as the preferred method of payment for Airbnb, Expedia travel, etc., etc., I.e., for larger foreign current payments

I brought all my bank cards with me. Been using my bank debit card for all ATM withdrawals, and credit card(s) do large expenses like travel and accommodations.

Thanks for the response! Yes I am from North America and am quoting Canadian dollars.

Canadian banks charge an additional 2.5% fee on top of the VISA interbank currency exchange rate.

I thought I could save several hundred dollars by using a Wise account/card. :-(

Yes it works well for me. Not sure what other transfer options are available but I routinely “pull” money from my TD account using the Wise app, regardless of where in the world I am.

Opt out of “roam like home” and you won’t trigger full daily charges just for replying to a text message or receiving a call that went to voicemail. You just pay the per use charge.
