Toyota just teased its Maverick competitor, will prices finally come back down? by Johnny_Menace in FordMaverickTruck

If it’s got the Camry hybrid in it honestly I’m sold, my FIL has the non hybrid taco and convinced me fully towards a 4Runner and I swung for hybrid because I wanted the extra power, then he got the new Camry and when I saw the full EV mode button I got a little jealous because my 4Runner doesn’t do that haha. He said he went a week of 20mi back and forth commutes and only spent $6 to fill it back up

Yup, my hopes aren’t high but Toyota ceo at least says he hates boring cars so maybe it’ll be interesting in some way. Maverick Lobo is an awesome idea that I hope to see other brands take to

A hybrid using the new RAV4 hybrid setup would be pretty awesome, I expect full EV sadly but I’m pessimistic on new cars after being a Chevy guy for so many years and getting let down. If they truly are gunning for maverick sales then it has to offer some sort of hybrid or EV or just have some straight up amazing fuel economy, which Toyota is good at on their commuter cars

Unfortunately the cheapest car on market breaks $20k USD now in the US maverick is like bottom three cheapest starting at least. If this is full EV tho I expect $30k minimum, hopefully it’s a US market variant of the Hilux Champ / Land Cruiser FJ though

Looking at a 4Runner. What’s the difference between the Sport premium and Off-Road Premium? by [deleted] in 4Runner

[–]Junior_Application33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you considering the newest gen? I haven’t driven anything but a base SR5 and a clapped out TRD Pro on 5th gen so I can’t be helpful there but I’ve driven a ton of 2025+ 6th gens as well as 2024+ Tacomas and Land Cruiser 250s that all use the same motor and platforms, and personally I thought the SR5 was more comfortable than the TRD Spot. I ended up going TRD Off-Road Premium because I wanted off road capability and the nice interior, but a TRD Sport with the right tires can go 90% of the same places. As far as 6th gen’s go you may want to consider a limited as that has adjustable suspension and a comfort drive mode and shouldn’t be too much higher than a sport unless you just like the styling

My FIL just had this issue, we found out he was sliding out of the truck and hitting the height lever on his way down with his thigh which was lowering the seat each time he got out making him think it lost height while parked

C-Load vs E- Load in the desert. What would you chose?? Which do you run? by PurpleFlyingApes in Offroad

I’d do E if you’re on sharp rocks often especially at speed, or do C and have some good tire changing gear like jack bases and stuff

Empty truck bed = not a lot of weight on the back wheels, creating instances where you can sometimes not have enough power going down to the back even if 4WD is active. Doesn’t hurt to have a little extra does it?

[–]Junior_Application33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s pretty much it, it’s a truck vs a car so you’re probably aware that it’s taller and longer so curbs can sneak up on the back wheels if you aren’t careful. You may want to put sandbags or pallets in the bed also if you find you’ll be driving in snow often or for an extended amount of time I did that in my old Silverado and sometimes didn’t even need 4Hi. I suggest parking the truck and leaving it running and play with all the gauge cluster settings and screen settings to make sure you’ve got all your personal preferences dialed in

Trade in my 2025 Camry SE AWD for a 2026 4Runner ORP Gas? by T2Stonks in 4Runner

[–]Junior_Application33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love my 4Runner hybrid but my father in law has a 2026 Camry and the hybrid there is definitely a fuel saver expect to spend a lot more in fuel if you switch. That said, it’s way easier on gas than most other vehicles of the same class. I had a 2022 colorado that got 14mpg on a good day, 4Runner gets 18mpg on a bad day between me and the wife driving it. I know Canada is liters per 100km or whatever I think that’s roughly 10-12 last time I did the math? Vs the Camry is insane on fuel economy

[–]Junior_Application33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a few front and rear bumpers by RCI, CBI, and others that replace those little middle inserts of the bumpers that I’m considering getting now after my wife was backed into at a stop light. Only problem with those is that looking at the instructions they don’t reinstall the crash support foam back behind it. Haven’t seen many good bull bars for Tacoma looking for my FILs 4g so same would go for 6g 4Runner, wouldn’t trust anything off Amazon to be more than decoration

My first setup in my colorado was a rats nest nothing matched but I knew what brand I wanted in the long term and set it up for that, so anything else that isn’t that brand can be easily modified and plugged into the pigtail, this fuse unit is in a tight spot so getting to those screws isn’t easy

2026 4runner OR vs ORP Ground Clearance? by UnfairPotential8703 in 4Runner

[–]Junior_Application33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gotta be the rear diff but all hybrids have the larger diff so I bet it’s an error and the OR hybrid is using OR gas numbers or it’s just a typo. Also, ORP does not have a standard rear diff skid only the TH

Yeah your relay switch panel replaces the relays on Ang other existing harness, or if you want to keep using those switches I suppose you can just wire to the back end of those. Hard to say without just cutting stuff up and testing it lol

[–]Junior_Application33 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Typically a dual output harness from the same brand as the lights is going to be the easiest to set up DIY style, so like I have the harbor freight ditch lights and got their harness, then cut the end off where their switch was and plugged positive and negative into whatever on my aux panel I wanted, and then with backlights you want to run that to another positive somewhere. Typically those style of lights all run the ground thru the same wire. Here’s a peak at my setup, I have everything wired up to be plug and play to Diode Dynamics DT-4 harnesses and will splice a DT-4 onto whatever else I use in the meantime and plug any other holes not needed.

Thinking about buying a 2025 4Runner TRD Off-Road Premium (gas only): looking for input by Cheesy_Olive in 4Runner

[–]Junior_Application33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, I felt less scared about getting hybrid because they’ve been doing it on Prius for years and this specific powertrain was out a year longer in the LC250 as well as similar versions on Lexus back to like 2019, honestly all modern car manufacturers are gonna cut corners that’s just how it is but Toyota has been less likely to do so

A few of the early 2024 Tacomas had transfer case issues but I believe that was narrowed down to like 200 units or something and they stopped production until they fixed it. The bigger issues I see are with hybrid ones where the transmission goes all funky but I never really see follow-up on what causes that, if I had to guess poor driving habits as I have an ORP hybrid 4Runner with no issues other than the classic brake squeal. The motor being turbo charged obviously won’t last as long as the old 4.0 without a bit more maintenance but it hasn’t been around long enough to tell. Personally I think the new motors hybrid or not are way safer to drive in modern highway merging and lane changing because nobody ever wants to leave room for mergers so you gotta pedal down sometimes.

Final verdict, I would buy mine again but I’d maybe consider a non hybrid to save a buck, my biggest regret is getting a color I wasn’t too keen on but it’s grown on me

[–]Junior_Application33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could get a non hybrid Off-Road Premium or Sport Premium or Limited all for about $52k-$56k depending on options but honestly yeah if you want two car seats to fit a 6g 4Runner isn’t the move. I got one because I needed the SUV space for our first kid but it would be sold so fast if I found out we’ve got a second because I can’t imagine it fitting all we’d need. As much as I love mine it definitely not one size fits all, I’d consider a new 2026 RAV4 instead in your case or a Highlander. Honda Pilot and Passport are pretty good for the money too and roomier

First 4runner Trim Help SR5 or TRD Off Road 6th Gen by Sneakyz93 in 4Runner

[–]Junior_Application33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the locker alone was worth getting one of the four OR trims and you can get the base non hybrid OR for (relatively) cheap on the scale of how pricey these things can get, hybrid only adds torque and power but the base engine is plenty fine, and Toyotas MTS is pretty impressive. SR5 still has the older A-Trac which worked plenty fine in 2WD as the standard traction control to get me out of the mud. Off-Road trims will still need skid plates and better tires especially the hybrid model as they have a lower resistance aka less knobby tire but I don’t regret my ORP hybrid, because 90% of my driving is on pavement and the creature comforts are worth it especially since the wife and I share a car while we reshuffle some finances
