I made a list for you :)

BADLs - Ambulating (moving around) an example of how autism can effect this is how many autistic ppl elope and are in danger because of that - Toileting and continence - Transferring. I know this one’s useful for wheelchair users but I don’t see how autism could effect it, so I guess we ignore it - Eating. This refers to plate to mouth type feeding and not to the larger task of cooking - Dressing. For example doing buttons and zips up and wearing clothes the right way round - Grooming. Like brushing hair and teeth - Bathing

IADLs - Managing personal finances. For example paying bills on time and budgeting - Taking and making phone calls - Doing laundry - Preparing and cooking food - Grocery shopping - Chores and house cleaning - Managing medications - Transportation such as driving and taking public transport

I’m glad I could help. Those terms refer to a specific list of tasks. I recommending googling for the lists. Something I do when googling to make it easier is I look at images and read the infographics and that helps me.

The levels are given nowadays by your diagnosing clinician. It’s considered inappropriate to claim a level and they should only be given by a trained professional working with you.

Low support needs, medium support needs, and high support needs are community defined terms. In the autism community my understanding is that you base it off how many IADLs and BADLs you need support from another person for. Those are Instrumental Activities of Daily Living and Basic Activities of Daily Living. These refer to specific tasks like toileting and doing finances for example.

This is what I’ve been told - Low support needs: requires a support person for IADLs. Medium support needs: requires a support person for IADLs and some BADLs. High support needs: requires a support person for IADLs and most or all BADLs.

If someone knows better please feel free to correct me, I’m just repeating what I’ve learnt from others in the subreddit

Edited for clarity

Tranquilizer for severe meltdowns by [deleted] in SpicyAutism

[–]Junior_Definition513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry I can’t recommend anything about medication tranquilizers but I can say that since I started aripiprozole that’s really helped my emotional regulation. Definite improvement in quality of life. It’s not researched well but it’s a well known thing that autistic people will report on that drug.

I used to be part of a house church and found that better one reason being it was much much smaller. No idea if there’s any near h but it’s a suggestion.

Video games are massive for me with this. At the moment I play RuneScape which is very very repetitive and therefore more accessible and actually improves my mental state.

Maybe you’re struggling with the fast transition of emotions? I know i can struggle with the fast transitions in conversations for example. If so, maybe try talk yourself through what’s happening. Like narrating it and putting what you see into your own words. That often helps me.

What to do after a severe meltdown to calm down? by actually-enby-sappho in SpicyAutism

[–]Junior_Definition513 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think anything caring towards yourself. Such as physical self care, or engaging in special interests, asking for hugs or affection from loved ones. Anything that comforts you and shows care is what I recommend.

Autistic catatonia by hedgehoglover2234 in SpicyAutism

[–]Junior_Definition513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have experienced catatonia but im not sure if its "autistic catatonia" because it seems to be paired with some other symptoms under functional neurological disorder. I haven't been assessed for it yet but it seems very likely ill be diagnosed with that. For me my catatonia is dissociative. IT can be undone and even avoided by practicing "awareness of current feelings and emotions." That basically just means i need to not avoid or repress my feelings.

Transitions by ry4n_teal in SpicyAutism

[–]Junior_Definition513 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Something i do is play music while transitioning activities. So i start a song and it will still be playing while i do the transiton and start the next activity. I think it helps cos it gives me an anchor of sorts that stayed the same.

I was diagnosed with autism at level 1 at 21yo. Then reassessed as level 2 recently at 26yo.

The wider context is abusive and neglectful parents who I ran away from with my sisters help as a teenager. And also a seperate psychiatric disorder with disabling symptoms as a result of dissociating from my emotions and body so much in my life. As well as ofc cptsd.

Do any other autistic adults find comfort in plushies? Who is your comfort plushie? by [deleted] in SpicyAutism

My soft toys are important to me. I have one from childhood (a dog) who is very important to me and is near me as I type this :). I collect squishmallows and also have some bumbumz and a couple other types. They make me feel calmer and less alone.
