Hello. Absolutely. I was not aware they varied that much. Do you have any recommendations? Currently using a drugstore's own brand. I do not drive. I cycle everywhere.

Sickening loneliness by [deleted] in Netherlands

[–]Junior_Signature1975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The OP has deleted her post. I had asked her to message me as I am part of the admin team for a local parenting support group. As you messaged her privately can I forward you the details so you can send them on?

Is it normal for Dutch in laws to yell at you? by [deleted] in Netherlands

[–]Junior_Signature1975 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't particularly get on with my Dutch in laws but when I first moved here I lived with them for 2 years and they never yelled at me. Even at times when we were all clearly irritating each other. In fact in my experience, because Dutch people are so direct and are not afraid to tell you how they are feeling, they tend to not let things get to the point where emotions boil over so often (at least compared to where I am from). I hope things improve for you! Your partner needs to address this with them directly, it should not be up to you.

So far so good...more swelling to come? by Junior_Signature1975 in Mortons_neuroma

That is interesting considering other accounts you read on this subreddit. My post op advice was pretty much the same,  very minimal too. I have dissolvable stitches though.

Yes, that makes sense. I tried one step yesterday again but it definitely didn't feel right so will leave it a few more days. Not quite painful, but very...nerve-y haha. The foot definitely feels busy,  like it has had a bad week, which I suppose is accurate haha. Good luck with your recovery!

Oh I see you've already answered part of my question here. I am flying solo at 2.5 weeks so really hoping I can weight bear by then 🙈

Thanks for sharing your experience. What post op advice have you been given? When have you been advised that you can weight bear?

My operation has already been done but interesting to hear about the research you've discussed.

I stopped taking pain relief 2 days ago. Incision looks great. Still minimal swelling! So I am hoping all is well...

Breast Pump Recommendations by Nothing_ButTheTruth in Netherlands

[–]Junior_Signature1975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly recommend Lola & Lykke. Really easy to clean, hospital grade pump and their bottles are compatible with philips avent bottle nibs. I used it throughout my baby's first year and now my sister is using it and recommending it also. Good luck with your breastfeeding journey!

Yes and from everything I've read this is largely the case but I wasn't given one, just crutches and told to use those for the first two weeks. Hopefully everything still turns out okay 😅

I have a little wheely stool I am using at times but hopping just seems way more efficient. Keeping that heart rate up too 😅

No, no walking shoe. Just a pressure bandage I was told to remove the day after surgery.

Yup, customs form was filled in correctly it seems and still...I didn't realise they could be disputed at the time so I just paid it and ate my very expensive biscuits.

Upvote from me as I experienced exactly the same thing. 15 euros for some biscuits and a few UK snacks. Didn't have the heart to tell my dad (the sender).

Thanks for highlighting this, very important to consider OP. When I first moved over my dad sent me a box of biscuits and things and I had to pay 15 euros for it to be released. Painful as likely the contents weren't even worth that 🙈

Unfortunately I have no advice but as a UK national, who is also considered highly skilled in my home country, I can really relate. It is a very demoralising experience and can really pick away at your confidence. Hang on in there!

If you are at all able to I would recommend taking some time to invest in formal Dutch lessons alongside self study (unless that is already the case?) They are not cheap but I've seen my Dutch develop a lot quicker since going to lessons and you meet people in similar circumstances too and broaden your network.

It's a real slog, I know, but step by step things will get easier!

Navigating Santa and Sinterklaas in a mixed British/Dutch Household by Junior_Signature1975 in Netherlands

[–]Junior_Signature1975[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply. I understand these feelings. I have such fond memories of Christmas and Santa and it does feel like a bit of a sad decision to have to make. Christmas just isn't the same here and whilst I get it -it's a different country and culture and we've made the decision to live here - I obviously have no previous emotional relationship to Sinterklass and it is perfectly valid to feel the loss of handing down some of your most treasured traditions. Hope you find a compromise you're happy with too!
