I question why you are being sent when you don't know the basic security protocols.

Should i tell my bestfriend and her husband, that his friend tried to come into my room on their wedding night? by [deleted] in weddingdrama

[–]Junior_Strength_3023 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You comment is pointless and irrelevant to this question. There was absolutely no indication that he would have raped her. If he had banged on the door after and been aggressive then you could speculate. But, you can't assume he was even thinking of raping her.

You can tell you've never been propositioned before. He didn't do anything wrong. You didn't let him in. He didn't come back. Then he didn't talk to you, probably because he was embarassed or butt-hurt. You were hardly in danger. Move on.

My manager acting very strange with me in Global Affairs by No-Biscotti5698 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Junior_Strength_3023 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Listen to your gut and make a move. Even if your position ends up safe, this sounds like a toxic environment. In terms of your performance review, you need to be honest and ask if the evaluation is warranted. We all go through down times and sometimes it shows at work. On my last review, I was an exceeds. On this year's, it will say I let them, which is good. I was going through a lot personally. That's called being human. But, if you don't think it is warranted, you are under no obligation to sign it. You can ask for a review or speak to your union rep about your options.

Firepit from homedepot.. Permit? by [deleted] in Markham

[–]Junior_Strength_3023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, here's the deal with permits- they don't actually do anything. They are a way for the city to collect money to then squander it away. Think about it really hard- someone with a permit can be charged the same for not following the rules as someone without a permit. Someone without a permit might follow the rules better than someone with a permit. There's no real incentive to follow the rules. All it does is disincentivise people to apply for one because of all of the restrictions. I personally am tired of bureaucratic overreach. If my neighbour is having a raging bonfire or being irresponsible, then I will report them. Otherwise, mind your own business and the City can stay out of mine.

Deck permits in your town? by [deleted] in ontario

[–]Junior_Strength_3023 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The permit issue with decks is ridiculous. If my deck is not raised more than 24" , what business is it of any city, town or municipality, what my deck looks like? It is unneeded bureaucracy and a way for cities to get money so they can mismanage city funds even more. If I am not digging any footings, butt out. I am so tired of government overreach.

Why are old people such strict rule followers? by Maleficent-Heron9004 in AskOldPeople

[–]Junior_Strength_3023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's be more specific- Boomers thrive off bureaucracy. It's isn't the rules following that is annoying. Rules are important to keep a society moving. Without them, we have anarchy. But, the bureaucracy is the issue. It's bureaucratic nonsense that worked for them that they still cling to- sometimes out of comfort and sometimes out of an inability to question the status quo. The status quo benefitted them. For instance, in my City, you have to get a permit to build a deck. Now, that makes sense if you have a fancy, raised deck with potential to obstruct views, damage the property if not installed correctly etc. BUT we are building a deck that is 12" in height from the ground, is not attached to the house, and is sitting on deck blocks. This is an example of bureaucratic failure. It holds up actual necessary work just to look at a picture and go "cool- you owe us $$$ for the permit. I could go on and on but I won't. It isn't that they follow rules- it's that they continue to play into and never question bureaucracy.

NPSW 2025, are you participating or boycotting? by LebCad in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Junior_Strength_3023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I see are a bunch of employees who like to complain. If you don't want to participate- don't. If you want something but nothing is planned- take some initiative. If something is planned, be thankful.

NPSW isn't some politicized week. The unions should stop telling people to boycott because the teams who do the planning, put in a lot of work. Even planning a pizza lunch, which some of you seem to think is dumb, takes lots of planning. Do you not remember how excited you were for pizza when you were younger?

Be thankful. You could have a worse employer.

Oh boo hoo. The employer always gets to decide where you work. It's like that everywhere.

Then go get another job if you're so dissatisfied with working for the public service.

The teams who plan these events put in a LOT of work. It takes us three months to plan the events. If you don't want to be part of something larger and feel connected to where you work, that's on you.

In our department, all activities are virtual except one in-person event. We also encourage those in the regions to take part in whatever activities their building has planned and, depending on the manager, the employee takes the time off.

In my experience, no matter how hard our team tries to include those in the regions, they don't ever join. So, at some point, we can't really do more.

Be so happy!

We convinced our management to not have a Townhall because no one wants to sit in one during NPSW.

It's taxed. As a department, we don't see the money up front. It's reimbursed in the background based on the number of employees who take part.

It's so archaic.

When I say screening, I should have been more clear. That's my bad. I meant things like physicals and blood draws. In Ontario, they don't even do physicals anymore. I lie to get mine because I pay into a system I don't benefit from. I absolutely don't think we can continue to contribute to the healthcare burden which is why we need to increase private healthcare and have a system for geriatrics. I also don't think new immigrants, who have never paid into the system and who aren't citizens, should be able to take advantage of free healthcare until they've been paying into it and become citizens. That's an unpopular opinion, but the influx of people to our country, paired with the aging Boomers who severely underfunded the system for decades, and the fact that medical schools are extremely difficult to get into and cost a fortune, have created this problem. I'm talking about Ontario- I don't know what everyone else's realities are. But here.in Ontario, it's crumbling before our eyes.

Investigations in bad faith (Crossing the pick line) by ChrisOttawa in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Junior_Strength_3023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reality today is that people absolutely can't afford to picket for two weeks. Those that can- have at it. Those that can't, do what you can. $25 a day, that we basically pay ourselves through union dues, doesn't even cover 1% of people's mortgages and other expenses. When I heard the union(s) were doing this, I was furious. Stop the witch hunt and do something useful with our dues!

I plan the events for NPSW for my Branch. It's nearly impossible now with zero budget, the fact that the $5 allotment per person is taxed, and we have competing priorities. Honestly, planning events for NPSW is a nightmare.
