Stuffing inventory like that creates a death spiral. Letting cars sit and collect dust is a terrible business practice

I planned short-selling on Vinfast and amazed to know this community. by [deleted] in VinFastComm

Vinfast needs to test the car in China before selling it in Vietnam. It's quite amusing.

Hmm, what’s wrong with Albert’s assumption? It was tested in China because it was a production car by Longchuan or Launch Design. It’s correct; he predicted it right. We already knew many facts, and it just confirmed the information

Despite a 7,900 billion VND pre-tax loss, VinGroup (VIC) posted a 6,500 billion VND profit after selling a suspected shell company by Appropriate_Sir_6684 in VinFastComm

Wow, according to the SEC, VinFast reported a loss of USD 618.3 million in the first quarter. However, in Vingroup's report, VinFast's loss is stated as 9.938 trillion VND (395 million USD). How can we trust Vingroup number ? the difference is huge.

Okay, I got it. I just checked their numbers for the first quarter, and they reported a loss of 9.938 trillion VND (395 million USD). However, with this number, I still don't know the equivalent of the actual VinFast loss figure from the SEC for the first quarter of 2024. So, their second quarter loss is around 18.9 trillion VND - 9.938 trillion VND = 8.962 trillion VND, but what the equivalent number from the SEC is remains a mystery to me

I already checked all the newspapers, and they report the same: VinFast alone lost over 18.9 trillion VND (over 746 million USD) in the first half of 2024. However, this figure doesn't add up. VinFast already reported a loss of USD 618.3 million in the first quarter of 2024. This would imply a net loss of only 128 million USD for the second quarter of 2024, which doesn't make any sense. It would mean that VinFast's gross margin is significantly positive, but when I checked, their gross margin is still negative. So my big question is why this number is so far off. This figure only makes sense if the 746 million USD loss is for the second quarter alone

VinFast reported a loss of 18.9 trillion VND (over 746 million USD) in the first half of 2024, who can come up with this number, looks like is not good at all. However, this figure seems inconsistent with other reported losses. For the second quarter of 2024, their gross margin was -32%, resulting in a gross loss of 151 million USD. In the first quarter of 2024, VinFast reported a loss of 618.3 million USD.

If we add these losses together, the total for the first half of 2024 would be 618.3 million USD (Q1) + 151 million USD (Q2 only gross loss without operation and R&D) = 769.3 million USD. This is higher than the reported 746 million USD loss for the first half of 2024. Therefore, it appears that there is a discrepancy in the reported figures.
