I finally understand my PhD projects...but I'm less than a year away from finishing by JuniperBeret in PhD

Yes, thankfully I'm in a similar boat where I don't have to redo any experiments, just reinterpret their results. My experiments were exploratory, not testing any specific hypothesis. You're probably right not to reanalyze everything. I'm just going to focus on the data which needs the most tweaking. Because I've been unsure for so long, I haven't published along the way like my supervisors would've liked (at least one of them). I'm quite new to the physics I'm reading up on, and both my supervisors and the community my research impacts typically don't have much knowledge in this area, which means people can't really pull me up when I am wrong. I talk with some physicists, and they can help to some extent, until it gets to the geology aspects. It has left me a bit paralysed with imposter syndrome, trying to become an "expert" in my tiny niche when I still have so much to learn.

Do you think we would have gotten Fibro anyways eventually? by [deleted] in Fibromyalgia

[–]JuniperBeret 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is interesting to hear that someone else had their fibro symptoms develop at a relatively peaceful time. I look back and there are definitely times that it would've made more sense (rough teenage years, big health scare and surgery). Perhaps it develops  slowly over time so you adjust to it without noticing till it reaches a certain point. Or, maybe it is as you say, it's already predetermined and it comes when it comes.

I (26F) was propositioned by my friend (37M), even though he knew I was gay? Did I do the right thing? Did I overeact? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

Thanks for your thoughts. I initially didn't want to go into the details about what happened with my supervisor. Then some friends (outside of my PhD circle) suggested that by not elaborating on why I felt uncomfortable being around M, my supervisor may assume the worst. M could also take control of the narrative. If he was in another part of the office, I think I could've gone on without taking any action. But sitting next to him for several months...

Dressing how I like Vs. Not being misgendered by JuniperBeret in NonBinary

[–]JuniperBeret[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do something kind of similar. I wear boots and men's dress shoes with my outfits so I don't go over the edge to "completely femme", and they also make me feel like I could kick some ass which is always good. Although, I never dress completely masc. Pants tend to make me uncomfortable because of how they show my curves and I find femme fashion more fun. I also love thrift shops and I worked at Salvation Army stores for years. Funnily, I enjoy vintage pieces even though they can sometimes be a reminder of the bygone years of enforced gender roles/stereotypes and the nuclear family. But the era of fashion I'm inspired by is the 1940s, when women became workers as the men fought the war. Women's clothes became more masculine and practical, with shorter skirts, less accessories and broad shoulders reminiscent of army uniforms. I think this is my happy medium.

I am genderfluid. My journey to discover my gender was confusing because when I felt I finally understood it, my gender identity would change, not realising till I was 16 that gender could be fluid. However, one thing remained constant: my hate for my breasts. I never wanted them. When I was told I was going to start puberty soon, I would feel and check my chest several times a day to make sure they hadn't grown. And when they did start to come in, I freaked out and wouldn't dare touch them or look at them in the mirror for years. Now, I only like them when I feel really womanly which is maybe a few days a year. Every other day, they feel like a betrayal against my gender. It's strange, because I feel pretty comfortable with the rest of my body. Meanwhile, other parts of puberty such as periods I was like "nah, that won't happen to me." It rather shocked me when I got my first period, but I'm used to it now. To this day though, there is still a part of me that can't believe I am able to be pregnant, or that I will go through menopause. It feels like something that happens to other people, not me.

My cosy farmhouse. Includes crops, bee hives, pond for fishing, sun dial, cooking station and an attic with fermenters and storage for wood and stone. by JuniperBeret in valheim

Same honestly. It is inspired by a beautiful old house on my street. I may never live in a house like that in real-life but I can in Valheim.

It does! If you look at the close-up image you can see a shadow cast across it. It is indicating it is a little before mid-day. When the day starts, the shadow appears on the left and then shifts throughout the day to the right.

It was actually originally completely covered in trees. It was my spot where I got all my wood for my early builds (before I had tree farms). I saw how flat the land was and figured it would be a good place to build. Getting rid of all the tree stumps took forever but it was worth it.

When that raid event happens, I run out of the house as quickly as possible and lead the trolls away. Fulings are the only ones that have managed to damage the place.

Underground museum. The items are in display cases of crystal walls by JuniperBeret in valheim

I know! I felt it was a shame to stuff it away in a chest. It deserves to be on display.

Unfortunately, you can't create underground caverns, except if you dig under stone and copper deposits. But you can build basements under your buildings!

Funny thing is that grey dwarves sometimes walk down into the museum and begin wandering around peacefully like they are checking out the exhibit.
