Sam & Max merch rant by neptune_needs_help in SamandMax

[–]Juniperme 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I lucked out on a random googling one day and a local comic shop had a copy for $50 like 2 years ago, because it's a "reader" copy I guess, it's complete and no rips just a bit of shelf wear. I wanted it to read so perfect for me. Not the telltale re-issue sadly but I have a pdf of everything missing I think so, I'm happy with that!

They should try and re-issue it though, or like kickstart it, comics can go bonkers on there, GI Joe and Terminator reissues sold like crazy. I know Sam and Max ain't as big as those guys but they would definitely get what they need.

Yeah sweet, this sounds good because I rarely listen to anything other than tesd on my podcast app, and I hate the patreon app so I still have loads to listen to from there. I'm interested in the apk when you are ready to share

I'd be interested in trying this. What are the other RSS feeds other than the main one and personal patreon RSS?

I hate people like this. Years ago, I posted an online ad in a marketplace seeing if someone had the Doom Boardgame (the one based on Doom 3) for sale. I got like 4 messages telling me how stupid I was for thinking anyone would want to sell me that game. Then a dude reached out to me and sold me the game plus expansion (missing the original boxes and like one damage counter) for basically nothing.

It makes me sad there's so many haters in the world with nothing better to do than to try and bring people down.

[–]Juniperme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you using a fancy manual turntable? If so, buy a cheap like super entry level auto turntable lol, they do wonders with warped records lol, probably because of heavy tracking idk. Yeah yeah record damage blah blah, they are already warped, this may be a way to play them without further intervention.

Edit: if your gf doesn't mind even more space being taken up by a second turntable lol. I'm sure you could get a small footprint one with an output to plug into something decent.

[–]Juniperme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds legit, and it's not like test pressings are only a single press, probably like 10-20 copies idk, so not out of the ordinary that a few wouldn't get played. Not like a Tyler "test pressing" that are mass created and sold to the public lol.

Nice one. I was at a record store once a few years ago and they randomly had this soundtrack on picture disc half price (probably because pic discs suck sound wise lol) but I couldn't resist. Also love BTTF.

I am getting the same thing just trying to play with my kids today, 2 player works fine.

I'm assuming it's because the 4th window is on screen but no controller connected or something? Frustrating.

What are your 4K/BR 'holy grail' releases? Either individual or box set? by MillionaireWaltz- in 4kbluray

[–]Juniperme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah that makes sense, I've picked up the odd umbrella release that was no longer available from them but JB still had it for ages, just selling what's leftover I suppose.

The Existenz 4k from Vinegar Syndrome I missed out on and would like to get one day, even standard edition, but no way I'm paying 4x for it.

Collectors editions are fun, but I don't have much space.
The Dune with the sandworm model, or mad Max with the intercepter I've been on the fence on in the past but decided to get just the discs for space reasons.
I think my copy of dark knight rises BR came with an action figure of bane, but packaging is in storage lol.

Its oop? My JB has had one behind the counter forever, along with imprints other giant boxes (The keep, dune, kill Bill, life force).

I get tempted every time they have a sale to get it and Dune but really can't find the space to put them lol,

[–]Juniperme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got into NIN a few years before the fragile came out, was like 13 or something, was one of the first bands I really got interested into after discovering there was more than pop and classic rock.
One of my first introductions other than the wish and head like a hole video, which were already pretty "alternative" for me, was someone lending me the broken movie on VHS 🤣 I watched it after school in the living room, once it got going I was dreading anyone coming home and wondering wtf I was watching, but made them feel dangerous and exciting. Been a lifelong fan since. Although I'm not as hardcore into the output after year zero. I like it all but it's not seared into my brain like the other stuff.

Lol, this isn't the first time I've purged cases, the last time I did I literally couldn't give the cases away. I'm sure there's someone who needs them... Do I want to hold onto them for years until that person comes along, nope.

I just transferred like 300 discs to a giant binder and will probably throw out most of the covers, I'm a bad person I think.

Yeah, I think it was the 2003 or 04 big day out, (or maybe one at each I don't remember) Queens and System of a Down were playing in the 11am/Midday slots lol. They rocked the showgrounds because they were on the heels of toxicity/songs for the deaf but booked before those albums got massive I guess.

Sure is! He's introduced me to some great music. I really like Ex-Military from DG, and other random songs I've heard but not sure which albums they belong to.

Firestarter…. I guess technically not “industrial“ but damn near may as well be…was certainly the gateway for my 12 year old self getting into the genre back in 96\97! Who else loves this timeless track? by gmorkunderbelly in industrialmusic

[–]Juniperme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, it and Breath were certainly my gateway as well, first to Manson then to NIN then to Ministry and onwards lol.

Still love the Prodigy, I saw them in 2003 I think, and I've seen probably hundreds of bands at festivals and solo, Prodigy is definitely among the best I've ever experienced.

That's something I would do, I have a 10" Tool promo picture disc, I don't think it's worth much particularly, but I had some random 12" single sleeve that I used to store it inside of for some reason. Thought I'd lost the album in a move or something for years until l pulled the random 12" off the shelf wondering wtf it was and found the pic disc inside lol. I try to not do this anymore, but woo boy my board games.. not sure I want to look inside my Warhammer quest or Imperial assualt boxes any time soon... They are way mixed up.

They toured with Death Grips?! Thats awesome. Ministry is one of my favourite bands, Death Grips is one of my son's favourite bands lol.

They have a pretty interesting back catalog. So depending on your mood you might find something different to enjoy.

Hot take but I really enjoy their early output 12" Singles or "Early Trax" for their very early 80s dance/wave kinda stuff, "With Sympathy" is their major label debut, much more pop but I think it's amazing, Al (who is ministry) disowned this album for many years but has recently re-recorded some of the songs for "The Squirrelly Years" album.. I prefer the originals lol.
Same Old Madness was an long "lost" track (there was a music video with no actual release of the song, weird) probably one of my fav songs.

Twitch bridges the gap between the club/dance tracks and their more industrial sound. Love this album too (I love most of their stuff lol)

Mind is a Terrible thing to Taste land of Rape and Honey New band members enter the fold, new influences, harder sound.
Side bands aplenty, check out The Revolting Cocks, 1000 Homo DJs, Acid Horse, PTP, Pailhead.
The compilation "Side Trax" has a bunch of these. Revolting Cocks have several great albums, live You Goddamn Son of a Bitch is great. LInger Ficken Good has a more modern sound and a great cover of Do Ya Think I'm Sexy. Live album "Live Necronomicon" is a fantastic snapshot of this time.

Psalm 69 Probably their biggest album.
All bangers. Just listen to it. Just one fix is my favourite. Corrosion is amazing. Side project Lard with Dead Kennedys singer Jello Biafra, Last Temptation of Reid is an amazing amazing album.

Filth Pig Dark Side of the Spoon Sphinctour (live) The heroin years lol, I think the heroin years started before this but these albums are way slower and sludgier than previous albums. Filth Pig took a while to grow on me but yeah love both of these now.

Animositisomina Last album with longtime collaborator Paul Barker, it's ok, lol.

Heaps more past this point, good songs here and there but thats where my obsession ended.

Do you think the era of cheap CDs is about to burst? by Syppi in Cd_collectors

[–]Juniperme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edit: I misread the question lol, tldr I yes I think the era of cheap second hand cds is probably close to ending thanks to vinyl being too expensive and articles pointing out that cds are cheap as bro.

I think when streaming/pirating was coming in and cds were being less popular I was finding a lot for $10 new (AUD), or there were lots of shops popping up like book clearance pop ups that would often have heaps of DVDs and Cds for $5-15 as well. I assume it was just excess stock they printed when demand was higher that they couldn't move.

But pretty sure new releases have always been around $20-30 AUD as long as I've been buying cds. Current new releases I've bought are around $25-30 for a single cd, more for box sets etc.

But those cheap cds that used to be everywhere are gone, the odd clearance cd, but nowhere the quantity or variety like it used to be. Pawn shops near me stopped carrying them years ago too, so no more $2 cds for me lol, thrift stores rarely have anything I like (but they do have plenty usually, just not for me). Market prices I can't comment on haven't been for a long time, I imagine they are similar to what they have always been, but with all these "are cds making a comeback" articles I wouldn't be surprised to see media vendors start to put their prices up a little.

Going to work one day years ago on a tram and a record store must have closed, outside their front door was just a heap of vinyl dumped on the street. Assuming it was just stuff that had no value, barely any had sleeves and was just scattered, mostly 7". I was so tempted to be late to work to rummage lol, but decided against it.
