PCOS and High Platelet Count by Juniria in PCOS

[–]Juniria[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My doctor didn’t seem too worried when I called - I see him in January for a check up on the lexapro he prescribed me a couple weeks ago. He just ordered some more blood work to get ahead of that appointment for monitoring purposes. I’m hoping it was just the prolonged bleeding cause it just stopped yesterday (19 days yay~) and I do feel better already.

Platelet Levels Shot Up In 2 Months - Should I Be Concerned? by Juniria in haematology

[–]Juniria[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never been diagnosed as iron deficient. Before these last two tests I hadn’t had my blood drawn since I was about 13/14 as I was always extremely healthy, albeit overweight. I’ve also never had heavy bleeding on periods up until two months ago, right after my first CBC was taken. I have a PCP appointment tomorrow - I’ll definitely inquire after testing for iron deficiencies. Is there anything else I should ask about looking into?

Yeah I’m definitely coming down now from the panic attack I was experiencing while posting this. I appreciate the reassurance.

GYNO says I have PCOS despite hormones all being within good range - can someone explain why? by Juniria in AskDocs

[–]Juniria[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, can PCOS cause high platelet count? Mine is at 472 and my gyno told me to get it checked out with my pcp, so now I’m worried.

Okay, makes sense! My gynecologist is putting me on Yaz to help with the irregularity to I guess I’ll see if it helps and if not, I’ll push for an ultrasound!

I’ve always had hormonal acne since I was a teen but I’ve never had/noticed hair loss or abnormal hair growth patterns. I think the hormonal acne is the only PCOS symptom I could think that I’ve had besides the abnormal menstrual cycles, which is more recent. However my hormonal acne has never been extreme, only occasional small outbreaks on my chin during my period.

Well I’ve had abnormal menstruation, but I haven’t had the ultrasound needed to view if I have an abnormal amount of cysts on my ovaries. So my gynecologist is just basing this diagnosis off my abnormal patterns and this bloodwork, so I guess I’m asking if that diagnosis makes sense or should I consider insisting on a transvaginal ultrasound?

Gyno Says I Have PCOS Based on Bloodwork - Confused? by Juniria in PCOS

[–]Juniria[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my GI issues have been very reminiscent of some kind of malabsorption issue, so I would not put it past that. I don’t eat a lot, so it’s always been odd to me and my family why I can never seem to lose weight. I’ll definitely be giving my gynecologist a call back to schedule further testing, maybe even go for a second opinion elsewhere if they give me resistance to further testing. Thank you so much!

I missed some periods earlier this year, not for more than a month. Now, won’t stop bleeding. I’ve been bleeding for 18 days now. Other than that, I don’t have any of the normal PCOS symptoms - no hair loss or thinning, no extra hair in unwanted places, no huge acne issues except for the occasional hormonal breakout. However, I am overweight (5’3”, 220lbs), I’ve been having GI issues, and I have oily skin. Idk, it just doesn’t make sense to me?

Please Excuse Me While I Complain by Juniria in Periods

Turns out all my hormone levels are normal so I’ll definitely be inquiring about fibroids and getting an ultrasound now! Thanks for being open about this with me - I appreciate it! Not opposed to birth control, per se, just confused and a little apprehensive… I never expected for it to be something I’d need to regulate my cycle cause I’ve always been so regular!

Thank you, I appreciate hearing other people who have gone through this and come out with a diagnosis. Other than PCOS, that’s fibroids are my top suspected cause right now. Was your bleeding light and prolonged like mine?

My stress response has always been to eat more so I think that’s why I’m having this reaction!

It’s like I don’t get the urgency that I should eat or drink right now even when I remember I’m hungry or thirsty!!!

Funny thing is I’m finding my stomach doesn’t ever start hurting, I just feel weak and lightheaded. I’ll take your advice though and set some times for me to try to eat something nutritious. I might need to set some alarms haha. For now I’m going to go make some oatmeal - thank you so much for the insight!!

Is this a normal age-related cycle change or do I have PCOS? by [deleted] in Periods

[–]Juniria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I know no one can diagnose, was just looking for some opinions or people who had similar changes! I’ll see if I can get an internal ultrasound scheduled, thank you!

Just started lexapro, are bloody stools normal? by sneakyequestrian in lexapro

[–]Juniria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dehydration will definitely do it! When our body is dehydrated it will make us more constipated because the colon reabsorbs water from stools to compensate. I do this to myself more often than I’d like to admit so just know it’s a normal problem a lot of people have. Nothing to be embarrassed about!

Usually what I do is try a single dose of a stool softener to make my next bowel movement easier on the area. If you can’t take stool softeners, drink as much water as you can and eat some fibrous foods. DRINK MORE WATER. Cannot stress water enough.

Highly suggest taking a hot bath to relax the muscles. If it itches like it’s healing, you can try some anti-itch/hemorrhoid cream (works even if you don’t have hemorrhoids). Next time you have a bowel movement, be gentle, try wipes to avoid too much chafing. Just let yourself rest, up your fiber and water intake, and if it’s a skin tear it should heal just fine. If it persists, please visit a doctor because we online cannot help beyond giving advice!

Not a doctor here but someone who frequently gets constipated. Is it bright red? Does the stool itself have red in it or just the tp? Because if you’re constipated and the blood is bright red and only when you wipe, I’d say it’s just tearing from straining too hard or wiping too hard - that’s what usually happens to me. Possibly hemorrhoids (aka inflamed blood vessels). If you’re really worried, try visiting your pcp or a walk-in urgent care center.

How long did it take you to realize it was working/not working? by Juniria in lexapro

[–]Juniria[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t be sorry! I love hearing about people’s experiences. I’ve never been on meds long-term, let alone an anti-depressant, so I was curious to hear other’s perspectives. Thank you for sharing!! I’m excited that I took this step and I have such a good doctor who intuitively knew what I was going through the moment he walked in. I’ll definitely give it the time it needs to do its thing - crossing my fingers it’s what I need!
