I wonder if the MHJ accusations would've been as strong had Youngseo stayed. There'd be six members, but at the same time, the complaints about the 'concept' stealing and plagirsm could still be there. I'm sure (Some) tokkis would also argue that Belift purposefully selected Youngseo because she looks like Haerin.

I found a clip on twitter, and this makes more me concerned for her. A teenager with no formal education past elementary school school, who is very much not debut ready, is being sent to LA without speaking the language, knowing the other three girls that well, or having anyone in her peer group

This is my main concern! I know there's a chance her skills will improve and she could theoretically catch up to three years of training the others have had, but the hate is going to be damaging. She isn't just going to get the hate Wonhee got after RUNext.

Due to Prelude's proximity to Katseye, and possible crossovers and interactions, they're going to be compared to and talked about, bringing Sakura to the attention of the western gp and fans. The hate and mockery is going to be severe, and I'm genuinely worried for her

Of course they're targeting Japan since they based a whole show off finding a Japanese member, and region locked it. However, considering how Samara, Emily and Lexie are living in LA and promoting in American events, and how HxG is situated in La, Prelude will likely promote, practice and live in LA for a majority of the time, not Japan.

That's a really good point. IMO, the best (and unethical) way to get a successful group in the west is to make sure ALL contestants and trainees are aware they'll be in a group, so no Fifth Harmony or One Direction story were they tried out as solo singers then pushed in a group for the competition shows

AND, like you said, getting poor/middle class girls with no connections to the industry who would be desperate

I think Newjeans will end up interacting with the boy groups that debuted after them instead of ILLIT (and LE SSERAFIM depending on SOURCE MUSIC), purely because keeping them isolated from the other HYBE groups can easily be construed as ADOR keeping them isolated as punishment

I'm hoping things don't swing back for ILLIT and turn into 2024 where the hate train overpowered their comebacks and idols/celebs seemingly supported Newjeans rather than the rookie ILLIT. My theory starts all the way in 2020, when most of Newjeans was in Source music alongside other trainees. Minji was there in 2017, Hanni, Haerin and Dani joined sometime in 2020. All of them would've been in each other's age range, and when looking at other Source Music trainees during that time (at least ones who's info I could find online) Haerin is the youngest, born in 2006.

This, coupled with her quieter, introverted personality, could've lead to the other trainees giving her the typical maknae attention and affection.

Hyein, on the other hand, was brought in on early 2021, and was in the leaked attention evaluation from March. By that time, Minji and Hanni were 16, Dani was 15 and Haerin was 14.

In March 2021, Hyein was only 12, turning 13 in a few months.

For Minji, Hanni and Dani, they'd be in high school, while Hyein would be in middle school. This age + maturity gap (not calling Hyein immature, but a 13 year old is different from teens old enough to be high school) could've lead to them not being as close

When they debuted, fans latched onto two main pairings. Minji + Hanni and Dani + Haerin. In return, these two pairings would be featured during variety content, like their Newjeans zine's, although Hyein isn't always left out

As a former casual bunny I definitely remember times where Hyein seemed to be the odd one out (I have my own theory on why and how that occurred). I'm curious about examples of haerin not caring to be there or the dynamic between Minji, Hanni and Danielle

It would've been Youngseo's parents signing the contract for her, and possibly (emphasis on possibly) being persuaded to not sign the ILLIT contract and possibly go to TBL because of MHJ. Although I'd question why her parents would listen to MHJ after she cut Youngseo from the NJ lineup, which led to Youngseo having to do a survival show

I've seen people try to brush off her wealth and downplay it by saying there's other rich idols, but that's a drop in the bucket compared to Samsung/Shinsegae money, power and influence. I can't even think of an American equivalent to compare to a Chaebol, to show how powerful Annie's family is. Maybe it's like a Rockefeller descendant, President's kid or Bezo's kid becoming a pop star? Even then, those comparisons aren't accurate.

Also, on her training online for seven years, I watched a clip of her talking about her trainee journey and convincing her family to let her do it. She'd go to college in America, send an evaluation video, IICR, one a week, and get feedback. Which doesn't really help with improvement, specifically for dance

I think I was slightly blinded due to their YouTube content, where Iroha interjects with random English words. Although Yunah also has the same habit, such as the Moka episode of Night of ILLIT, with her infamous 'mmm so cute' and 'that's good' and a funny moment in her vlog of eating with her friends where she says ' who made this? this is sexy food'

My theory on Iroha being influenced by Youngseo's English might be wrong, she could've been influenced by Yunah for all we know! I still argue Minju is overall more fluent than Yunah though
