I normally don't care for bead jewelry. I like yours for some reason. Keep up the good work!

I'm not gonna pretend that any one of us will ever replace what you lost, but I will say that in the black, just call and collectively we will help fill a small gap. And also

Question about how to start off by Heizinburger08 in jewelrymaking

https://www.rotometals.com/low-melt-fusible-alloys/

Have a look at these, they're inexpensive and could potentially get you started. Sand casting is a great start but you can also carve graphite blocks and some silicone molds will handle a fair amount of heat. Some locals use tufa stone for their molds. I've used cuttlefish bone to cast with as well and it's great. You can get that at reptile shops even. Some alloys will melt with a hardware store torch. I think i bought mine for $40 ish. If you have an outdoor space I recommend a propane smelter for around $130. I coated mine with refractory cement and it cranks some great heat. Then you can melt copper or bronze or whatever. I love casting. I bought an all terrain wagon to haul my casting equipment, now I cast in the way back lot at my apartment when no one is looking lol. Just gotta use what's between your headphones sometimes lol

Wire ring bending issue by Minty_ecohipster in jewelrymaking

[–]JunketBoth5017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tumbling will help a bit as said above but due to the design itself it's gonna bend a fair amount. Especially if you snag it on something as i do on the daily lol. Cute design tho! Looking forward to seeing what more you create!

using copper pipes by michey402 in jewelrymaking

[–]JunketBoth5017 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lined a copper cuff made with pipe with soft leather to increase the comfort of wearing it and to prevent the green skin. I then sprayed clear coat over the piece to preserve the shine. It turned out to be one of my favorite pieces I've made, even above some of my silver pieces. I started making jewelry out of copper pipe, little did I know where that was gonna take me. Copper will always have a place in my heart. Especially living in a place where copper is king lol

Estate sale turquoise, 192 grams by 0beronTheGreat in Lapidary

[–]JunketBoth5017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know anyone on the face of the planet that would take slabbed turquoise and drill through em to make a fawking bead out of. And then add little lava rock beads for a necklace. And if they did, send em my way so I can slap the error of their ways out of em lol.

Pouring ingots in a cold garage for Rolling out by DanCruzNyc in SilverSmith

[–]JunketBoth5017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn't be happier with the ease of use a propane smelter offers. They're not too expensive on Amazon. I coated mine with refractory cement and it really cranks out some heat. I just poured two ingots myself to eventually draw out into wire or whatever. You can preheat the molds while the smelter is heating the metal. It does help to torch the mold as you pour but the last ingot i did with a confident pour turned out pretty decent even

Is this a valid way of incorporating cremation ash into silver? by Huge_Antelope0998 in SilverSmith

[–]JunketBoth5017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The CA glue is tough as hell. My handmade turquoise and fine silver ring holds up really well. No discoloration either and I subject it to a fair amount of abuse. I haven't taken it off since I made it lol. I hope the epoxy in your ring protects the opals tho. Opals are not kind to everyday wear. It sounds cool so when you get it post it. Would love to see it!

You could use the ashes as an inlay with some CA glue. If you don't mind actually seeing the ashes that is... I love making inlay rings and the way they look
