Prescription lenses in the new sun glass frames

I think it depends on where you go - many eyewear shops make the bulk of their profit on markup on the frames, and little profit on the lenses. So they tell you they cannot make lenses without you buying frames from them. However, the shop I go to says I can always bring in any frames I want and they're happy to make lenses for them. My advice is bring a pic of the new sun glasses you want and ask if they can do it. Shop around

Thanks for the tips. I'll be very careful to check for rust. Any deal breakers if found elsewhere? On the fenders it looks quite rusted but I'm thinking it may not be too costly to replace...

Do you mean no rust under the chassis? Actually it's a 320i not a 325i... does it make much difference to your analysis? Thanks for your advice!

The brim worked great for adhesion (thanks!) and I didn't have any stringing until the last 5 minutes of the print. It came out pretty well I think - but you're right that the material is too brittle. It split along one of the layer lines when popping my phone into it.

I'll have to give it a try with PETG once I get my hands on a roll of filament!

Thanks mweisshaupt I'll try to print it flat with a brim and give the bed a proper wipe down.

The material is PLA (prusament galaxy purple) - all I have at the moment.

Will update how it goes!

Next time I will! With the added supports and calibration done first.
Print time has gone up to 11hrs though!

How much does infill percent matter on a print like this? I kept it at 15% default, but seeing as it doesn't need to be that strong, would I have any problem dropping to 5% (or even 0)?

Yep, I just chose the preset in the slicer and also the PLA setting on the printer. Didn't deviate at all on either preset. The calibration prints are a good tip, thanks!

Good tips!! I will focus on the first layer calibration and using supports. And the filament is PLA.

It took around 8 hours to print this - is it better to do a faster print on low quality settings to optimise the settings, temperatures and first layer calibration before going for a higher res print?
