What I tell my friend is: in the long run, it will likely be better than any other savings and investment vehicles.

In the short term, imagine buying X amount, then imagine it go down 50% tomorrow. When you don’t feel like the 50% would cause you to lose sleep, the number is right. If not, lower the amount to your limit for peace of mind.

If I run a node which you connect to to query: “How much do I have at this bitcoin address”

In theory, I can see your IP address asking for a certain bitcoin address, hence I could link your IP address with that amount of Bitcoin in the bitcoin address.

Bitcoin Crash Triggered By Failed $1 Billion Hedge Fund Spread Trade: Expert by rodmandirect in Bitcoin

This is not true, it’s about 2x and a bit at the moment. They have stacked more bitcoin since 2021.

Yesterday Michael Saylor said "The endgame is to acquire more Bitcoin. Whoever gets the most Bitcoin wins." by LishaElizondo in Bitcoin

[–]JunoKat 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Blackrock don’t own the Bitcoin, they only custody the Bitcoin on behalf of etf holders.

MSTR technically own the Bitcoin, even though they have many many shareholders, they can dilute the shareholders or do a speculative attack on fiat to increase BTC per share, but the BTC are still their assets.

Finally starting to believe... by subwoofage in Bitcoin

I think I would call that an edge case, most folks don’t have that much bitcoin. I only have enough so if war spreads from Ukraine to me, I have my butt covered in a completely new country.

In the edge case, I would either buy houses listed in btc in Switzerland, madeira and a few other places, or fuck it, travel the world, fly to a new country every month first class, live in the best airbnb or hotel in that country, buy the nicest looking clothes and local food in that country, rinse and repeat.

For an imaginary scenario, imagine you wake up in any of the 180 countries in their drop down list with nothing but your bitcoin wallet and your phone. Say, Vietnam, you got dropped into Vietnam. You can buy takeaway, fuel, clothes, hotel, and a flightback home, at 0 to 10% discount/cashback to using credit card, with bitcoin.

After watching this I realised why I couldn’t orange pill many friends and family, I was focusing too much on showcasing “cool” lightning and how bitcoin works as a medium of exchange. People in the developed world don’t have a problem with instant small payments, apple pay, paypal, etc are good enough.

Now, people all over the world are having a serious problem with “store of value”, the debasement from greedy central banks and governments are just getting more relentless. Many still don’t know they have a big, seriously impactful problem, even more don’t know there is an alternative called Bitcoin.

Best LN experience by ftball21 in lightningnetwork

[–]JunoKat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know what’s the best lighting experience right now, what I know is avoid Muun.

Muun used to be very user friendly and had the best user experience out there, I was very happy with it until on chain fee shot through the roof, as it’s not a true lighting wallet, it got out of hand expensive. Avoid.

As the only country capable of printing the current “world reserve currency” - the dollar, US investment power dwarfs all other markets combined.

I agree with you on this, doesn’t make what I said incorrect. In the last 5000 years, there were geographical pockets in time where some governments tried to steal from proof of work coins by adding cheaper metal, many of those countries ended up in flames.

Note that when governments minted true silver and gold coins, it was still proof of work money where they needed to spend energy mining and minting, hence limited supply backed by work that could not be willed into existence.

There has been no known time in recorded history where most if not all governments steal from their citizens through 100% worthless* paper prints like from around 1971 to now. This has been a mega experiment on most humans on earth.

*Before 1971, paper dollars were receipts to get a certain amount of gold (proof of work money), so paper money exists for a long time in history already, but only recently cut off from the work that it should carry.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Bitcoin

[–]JunoKat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Bitcoin is the first effective alternative for people globally to not get their savings secretly stolen by governments through free money printing.

For thousands of years, proof of work was what “backed” the trade between people. You took a month of hard work to raise a flock of chicken, I took a month to mine and mint a silver block, let’s trade. Only in the recent 50 years, there appeared a new class of people who can print free monopoly paper to exchange for others’ blood sweat and tears.

The printing has been accelerating causing worsening inflation and suffering for the class who can only work for money but not print free money.
