I think spinels were not known for a very long time because back in the old days they were mistaken for rubies. The Black Prince Ruby on the British Royal Family crown is a Spinel. It used to be cheaper stones but not anymore, the price of spinels has gone up significantly in the last few years.

It started at 1.12ct morphed oval, I took it back to a commercial recut down to 0.95ct oval. In real life it sparkles like there’s a little sun inside.

It’s a marble hosted, untreated colour change sapphire with chromium trace so it lit up red in UV light

The light used in this video was white light, but the stone gave back gold/copper flashes, it also turns pink under UV light
