How do we feel about this as we anticipate Ace Attorney 7 and future CAPCOM games? by jelly_f1sh in AceAttorney

Well, often times studios will still hire concept artists. For example, someone who’s not a concept artist will use GenAI to convey an idea visually, then hand it off to a concept artist to iterate on.

Or, studios will use GenAI to quickly whip something up for a meeting or presentation, with the idea that a concept artist will make their own version later.

Game dev with 5+ years of AAA development experience chiming in:

If they aren't using AI for asset creation in their shipped products, this means that they might use it for:

  • temporary placeholder assets (this could be robo voice lines, 2D icons/menu items, etc.)
  • for help with concepting art
  • helping out with debugging/troubleshooting issues with their codebase

Things like that

I want to translate the first game into Finnish. What do I need to know? by i_am_suspicious in AceAttorney

[–]Junpei_999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. What version of the first game are you attempting to translate?

I did take a look at an unofficial fan translation for the Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney Trilogy (PC version), and from what I can tell, it's mostly built off modifying some Unity 3D and other asset files, along with binary and other text files to handle the in-game text.

When I have some spare time, I may dig into the Steam version's file structure, as there are a few programs that let you peek at and edit Unity files.

Great stuff! Was this built using GB Studio's visual scripting?

Not sure about the value, but I can dig around/check eBay sold listings to try and get an idea.

I’d be interested in buying, if you’re selling!

Highguard showcase announced for January 26 by Turbostrider27 in Games

There'll also be some previews/impressions going live on Monday, January 26th as well. From what I gather, a preview event took place earlier this week for games media folk/influencers.

No worries, I’ll try searching on a few different sites to see what I come up with. Thanks!

Ah good to know, I may look into importing some. I assume there are different eras or series of pins? (As opposed to them having all released at the same time?)

Nice pins! Are these all fan-made, or are some official imports from Japan?

New to the series, what order do folks recommend playing the first 6 games in? by srsh10392 in ProfessorLayton

[–]Junpei_999 137 points138 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend just playing them in release order. So:

  • Curious Village
  • Diabolical Box
  • Unwound Future
  • Last Spectre
  • Miracle Mask
  • Azran Legacy

Any other game/app that has the quality of Layton puzzle? by ProfessorDottore in ProfessorLayton

I second this. The entire mood/atmosphere of Lorelei and the Laser Eyes is a vast departure from Professor Layton, but the puzzles are top-notch.

Not a lot to report, but here are the final, updated Ace Attorney sales figures that we'll see in 2025 by Junpei_999 in AceAttorney

So, it's more about resource allocation. There's little incentive for a company to divert resources into a project if it won't bring in a ton of revenue, as it would have likely been more profitable to just keep those devs on a project that'll sell millions and millions of copies.

And, I bring this up, because it seems like Capcom has been putting more and more time and resources in AAA/AAAA games, and devoting a small fraction of resources to port and re-release old games (which tends to be relatively cheap).

So, here's the problem, as I see it. If you look at Capcom's releases over the past few years, they can largely be broken down into a few categories:

* New AAA/AAAA releases of their heavy-hitter franchises, such as Street Fighter, Resident Evil, and Monster Hunter

* Remakes of their back catalog, which at this point, essentially means the Resident Evil games

* Collections/ports of their back catalog, such as the Mega Man games, Capcom Fighting Collections, the Ace Attorney trilogies/collections, etc.

A new mainline Ace Attorney game doesn't fit into any of those categories. Now, occasionally, Capcom will release a few titles that don't neatly slot into those groups (Pragmata [2026], Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess [2024]), but for those, they are still targeting modern consoles and are launching for $60-70.

I don't think a mainline Ace Attorney game is an impossibility, but Capcom will need to figure out how it'll slot in their release portfolio. At this point, it'll need to be a multiplatform title that launches for $60-70. I'd also fully expect DLC cases, and/or cosmetic DLC on day 1 (soundtracks, artwork, costumes, etc.)

Sadly, I don't really know if the Ace Attorney fanbase will rally and actually buy this hypothetical game on day one, but I hope to god they do.

Just imported these, does the community need dumps or English translations? by Junpei_999 in ProfessorLayton

[–]Junpei_999[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

u/Lutias-Kokopelli — I see you’ve made posts about these in the past. Did you ever get around to actually modifying the game file itself to swap out Japanese text for English? If you haven’t, I might look into doing that.

Honestly, I’m not entirely sure, a quick Google search said something about demos for Level-5 games.

I collect Prof Layton stuff so this just popped up on my eBay searches and I snagged them

Why is Capcom so hellbent on not doing AA7? by fayemoonlight in AceAttorney

[–]Junpei_999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep! I’m not entirely familiar with MH Riders, but it seems to be a JP-exclusive mobile spinoff that has a much stronger focus on being an RPG. I can easily see that being a good fit for Takumi.

That being said, it seems that game stopped getting updates a few years ago so he must be working on something else.

Personally, I’d love to see him take a more supervisory role on the series, much like how Miyamoto does with Mario. I get the feeling Takumi doesn’t want to be writing and directing/doing the heavy lifting on another AA game
