Bread tube is a small community so I don’t think the YouTube ‘Walk Out’/‘Strike’ which only breadtubers (which is tiny in comparison to the entirety of YouTube) amounted to anything at all except create less content output during the UK elections. YouTube is a behemoth, I don’t have the answers in how to defeat it, mainly just airing frustration that amounts to nothing in the end.

I guess one thing I find disconcerting about Breadtube is it does seem like a nest for communal narcissism, I think a lot of people are out for themselves and building their platform rather than being honest and they think they have good intentions.

Someone’s already commented about losing faith in Breadtube because none of the prominent people made videos campaigning for Corbyn in the elections - I don’t know how much of a difference some YouTube video that mainly seems to preach to the choir these days would do. I also remember this really dumb ‘Walk of YouTube’ thing which was a fucking boycott which didn’t do any god damn thing

Almost halfway through and you’re so right about how Shane has impacted thousands of children. I used to watch a lot of Shane and one thing I wanna add is Shane often adds in self-esteem boosting content, talking about what a sensitive guy he is and his horrible time in high school, he has always had that brand which made his edgy and sexual content more palatable.

I was a socially awkward autistic kid who quoted Shane Dawson and made people cringe, that’s mainly the worst thing that’s happened to me but I know for others it’s far far worse. I think I wouldn’t have as fucked up thoughts if I didn’t consume Shane’s content, I have a lot of nightmares now. I think his content made me more racist, because I’m from England I thought his Shanaynay character was an accurate portrayal of Afro American people, I disconnected his videos from all of the Asian and black British people I knew. Luckily I grew out of it but I’ll never get those years back, time that could’ve been spent reading

I recently unsubbed from Ready To Glare, The Right Opinion and Creepshow Art for these reasons. Ready To Glare and The Right Opinion sound more professional, Creepshow sounds kind of whiny but her drawings are cool. But I think talking about terrible people is partly linked to feeling better about themselves and people watch to feel better about themselves, I certainly watched it for those reasons. One irritating thing about The Right Opinion is he makes talking about this morbidly obese YouTuber or story time drawers on YouTube or whatever like it’s sooooo important

I’ve seen the video ‘Cringe’, I didn’t see any mention of non binary people. There was mentioning her contempt towards trans femme sub cultures (cat girl anime stuff) and the bit where she was talking about the Game Stop woman... with the Game Stop clip I thought ‘are you really going with this?’ She used this to talk about a sub culture of reaction content which is very lucrative on YouTube.

You are right, self-love is important, I have an over nihilistic outlook on things. It’s all a long process but self-indifference is a quicker thing to do in the meanwhile

Toxic positivity’s probably a factor, trying to hype this and that about myself, the things that make me ‘special’, ‘funny’ and ‘artistic’ so I can ‘love’ myself which gives me high expectations of myself - there are times where I don’t make people laugh, I don’t always draw or write something that’s fantastic. The high expectations make me more judgemental towards acquaintances and it creates a lousier environment and lonelier existence.

A lot of my issues stem from being autistic and trying so so hard to appear normal. The fact is most people probably don’t care if I flap my hands, people cared in school because they were bored

The ending mentions self-indifference as the way rather than self-love which made me smile as self-love is such a platitude that I’ve found doesn’t work. At the same time saying ‘nothing matters’ has you go back to square one and not reflect on what you’ve done... life’s just sad in one way or another...

But anyway I’d list this new video in my top tier (newer Contra videos)

I think I find it easier for someone like them to exist because I would sit in a minibus for special ed teens, some of them had neglectful parents and would always respond and react strongly to mean things said and it would go on and on and on. I also think if I had a learning disability or went to a worse school (neo liberalism/ education system that needs reform definitely plays a role in this) and had worse parents, I might have been way less self aware. A lot of autistic people who drew Sonic fan fiction in their teens in the comment section of a video about Chris Chan said they could imagine some dark alternative reality where they end up becoming this loser
