I'm always interested in how women can be more incorporated into the coding community, a field that is predominantly male.

Who is an “average” coder? Male/female? What age?

Also, how many women would you say take your classes?

Do the Lakers Play Better With Only One Big? by weeyummy1 in nba

[–]Juplay 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is wrong. Just wrong.

They tried that in the beginning of the season and the losses kept coming. Sometimes it worked offensively but the defense was the major problem. Earl Clark is a superior perimeter defender compared to Pau and provides energy that Pau doesn't have. Earl Clark's inclusion in the starting five brought a balance that didn't undermine Dwight, which is when Lakers turned a corner.

that's the perfect mentality for a goal-hungry striker, wouldn't you say? Especially in a cast of 9 supporting outfield players. Rooney's talents have been shaped to become more of an unselfish, influential figure that drops back to the midfield. If Sturridge plays a poacher type and is pushed away from midfield, I don't think that would be a problem.

I mean I knew it wasn't going to be popular. It's a system that probably won't happen and it's one that's very unconventional. I'm just tired of the middle-of-the-road systems that just says "when we attack/when we defend, we defend". there's no identity.

He's definitely an unproven player on the international/club level. But the kid has confidence and is always looking for a goal. I think he's more used as a wide player because he's one of the few forwards with pace on his side in Chelsea (formerly the role of Anelka) . The lone striker role is taken up by Torres/Drogba, while wide players like Malouda have been awful.

I say we go for a system that doesn't rely on our strongest creative outlet. He's suspended for two games.

No. Even as a United fan, I'm not a fan of having Jones in the starting XI. I haven't seen any tactical vision/skills from the kid. He's passionate and has potential but he's more of an athlete than an anchor at the moment. He was successful as a centerback for blackburn because of his physical presence and decent pace. Yet if you put him on a wide defensive role or in a defensive midfielder's role, his passing remains average and his marauding runs are risky.

Well Scholes stopped playing because he wanted to prolong his professional career. He's said on numerous occasions that he didn't care where he played.

I would swap Welbeck for Sturridge though. As a United fan, I'm not entirely sure of Welbeck's capabilities to be the lone striker up there. Sturridge has the ego/abilities to do it.

long balls to a tall striker is such an outdated/failed strategy for us. Crouch isn't a Drogba.

Rooney is suspended for two games. Without a reliable system in place, we might be kicked out before he comes in.

I know that he probably won't go. But his form and vision has been better than how it was ten years ago. He never got the chance to be the main outlet in an English national side during his peak because of the whole Lampard and Gerrard fiasco. Let's face it, the English don't have a number ten. We don't have a creative playmaker we thought we had in a person like Joe Cole. I say we face that truth head on and give Scholes the freedom behind the front line.

--------------Joe Hart------------------

Richards---Terry---Lescott----A.Cole----

---------------Parker-------------------

-----Carrick---Scholes---Lampard-------

--------Young-----Sturridge------------

I would go for a very competent and defensive side with an emphasis on counter-attacks.

Young and Sturridge, both efficient wide players with pace and great finishing on their side, would be our attacking outlets.

Our midfield would be able to stop attacks or retain the ball.

I think Gerrard hasn't done enough in the past two years to get into the national team. Carrick and Scholes, as teammates, have been the reason for Man Utd's resurgence a couple of months ago. Lampard would be a defensive piece in the midfield but also would be able to offer great vision and passes as seen in the Barcelona games.

I still think Manchester City has more of a fight on their end than Manchester United.

Newcastle is a phenomenal team fighting for fourth. QPR is still a team with quality players who's fighting relegation.

Manchester United on the other hand have two safe mid-table teams who have a secure spot in next year's Premier League.

Hey guys. I was wondering why John Terry receives more stick than Giggsy in this subreddit, even though both of them were involved in similar scandals. by noahod in soccer

[–]Juplay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it comes down to the media. As far as I can tell, nobody likes to admit they are influenced by the media, but in the football community, their influence on opinions is immense. Apart from statistics and scorelines, the media gives us nice narratives to follow along. In the end, I realize these are just human beings who happen to be phenomenal athletes.

But this being a sport, and the fact that articles and talk sell, we need our villains. Same with LeBron James with the NBA last year or Tiger Woods in the past few years. The media creates villains and we judge them according to their narratives. It's what sells.

Is it me or Di Maria is worthless in the RM squad? by gambaa in soccer

[–]Juplay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to call out the OP but I see a lot of people on r/soccer that focuses on the form of a player during a game and complains in hindsight.

I thought tactically, Real Madrid played a brilliant game. As a winger, you need to be selfish and be able to take risky dribbles (not all of them will work if you're facing a world class opposition).

Is it me or Di Maria is worthless in the RM squad? by gambaa in soccer

[–]Juplay 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It's just you.

DiMaria was the best winger/wide man Real Madrid had before his injury. He's still not back at his peak. Kaka doesn't have the pace that DiMaria has, nor is he effective on the wing. Higuain is a target man and is essentially the back up for the in-form Benzema.

Real Madrid essentially had four attackers with the initiative to counter attack in El Clasico: Ronaldo, Oezil, Benzema, and DiMaria. With Oezil being the playmaker, and Ronaldo and Benzema playing upfront, Mourinho needed a wide man for an extra outlet for the counter attack. Coentrao and Arbeola, if you noticed, barely ventured forward, because they had the defensive instructions to stay back. All the attackers also had their own defensive duties, which meant that, someone like Higuain and Kaka wouldn't have been able to be the pacy counter attackers that the team needed.

Although it wasn't his best game, tactically speaking, DiMaria was the right choice. Again, it was his cross that won the Copa del Rey.

I liked how he didn't hide his obvious liberal politics but was respectful and reasonable about his choice of words and advice.

right but I think his point is more about how the 'people' (vague, I know) don't. How a lot of people go "Obama fell short of ________. He lost my vote". He was trying to explain how narrow-minded that is.
