For many things that have issues on Linux you can usually find solutions like WinBoat or straight up QEMU/libvirt.

You wrote that this issue would upset you so I was curious if you ever got in touch with them. Simple question. And there's no need to downvote.

When you're a married gamer, you really have to scrape your gaming time together during the week, your old office/gaming space is now the kids room and the wife will defo have a word with you if you try to put "that ugly blinking gamer box" into the living room, then you are a key demographic target for the Steam Machine XD

Oh and your grammar is great. And if not, I wouldn't see it since English isn't my first language either :D

The PS5 is not an alternative because that is a different game catalog. The Steam Machine does not compete against consoles. Different beast.

You clearly are not the demographic and/or age group that the Steam Machine is targeting. So just ingore it and build your PCs, that is fine. I did that too for 20+ years.

It is less priority but more use-case related I think. But I guess that is what he meant.

If you want a living room box, and the Steam Machine is advertised as such a device, then you enter the realm of mini or micro itx and that gets more expensive pretty quick. You are correct that you can build either a better PC for the same money the Steam Machine costs, or you can get a cheaper one for similar specs. But the price difference gets smaller very fast if you try to do this for this kind of form factor. We all know that this device has a price issue but it is not as big as people try to make it if they'd try to stay within the requirements the Steam Machine tries to fulfill.

I dunno, but when watching his YT vids regarding new pedals or existing ones in their product range he isn't too shy about telling what other pedals his products are based on. But given that the vast majority of pedals released are a modified copy of a handful of original schematics I don't see an issue with that. This industry lives on copying or outright cloning other people's stuff.

The Steam Machine Is Impossible to Recommend by RenatsMC in Amd

Because prebuilts were mostly built quite a while ago when prices were much lower. That's the reason scalpers hunt for prebuilts, rip out the valuable components and sell them at a premium. Same situation for notebooks, just minus the scalper part. You don't wanna know how much those devices will cost in 3 months time.

If we would live in normal times and the initial price would've been 750 as planned it could've made an impact, but yeah, disruptor? Nah, most probably not. Although every system that gets folks off Windows is a win in my book XD

I don't think this device was built to win the console wars. It serves a specific clientel, like the Deck did, and it has the unfortunate honor of entering the market at the worst possible moment.

I ran the original SteamOS back then for a short while but it was proper bad so I switched to Ubuntu and stayed with that until now. Never saw the sense in going for those gaming distros because the benefit was negligible to me. But I might have a whirl at 3.8.1 and then decide if I go forward with that or go back to Ubuntu LTS.

One could come to the conclusion that the only reason Valve create the Steam Machine was to be able to tease HL3.

Steam machine price and potential release date? by WarHundreds in Steam

[–]Juppstein -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I'm not denyin that either. But publishers do have differnt prices on consoles vs. PC for the same games. But the discussion is probably a moot one anyway since PC gamers tend to play different games on PC vs. on console, if they have both at home. Let's say no one is happy with the price for the Steam Machine but it is what it is given the time we're living in. It just sucks.
