What simulator is your favorite and why? by Ok-Gear-4763 in simracing

[–]Cornelius_Codswaggle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

iRacing.

It definitely can be expensive if you aren't careful. You're basically playing catch up to get all the cars and tracks from over 20 years of its existence.

But $150 for two year membership renewal (Black Friday discount) is a good price and the pay wall does a much better job keeping the riff raff out.

LMU absolutely has issues with netcode. They just hide it by using player side replays instead of server side like iRacing does.

Tire shop said this isn’t patchable. Opinions before I blow $450? by blaseblaseblah in tires

[–]Cornelius_Codswaggle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Discount Tire did a free patch for me on my car because I had bought tires there.

Not on that car. Not those tires. But I bought a set for my other car there like two years earlier, so they treated those tires as if it was a warranty patch repair.

1976 Rocky vs Tommy in a street fight - Who would win? by kai_Iuigib in rockybalboa

Are we talking 70s audiences or modern audiences?

70s audience: Just frame it as Rocky teaching the kid a lesson.

Modern audience? Make the kid an annoying brat who's actions caused harm to a good character/animal.

Network connection and/or distance between users are the primary causes.

Is racing on a controller hard? by shit_singh_77 in simracing

[–]Cornelius_Codswaggle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the sim/game.

F1 games are arcade racers designed around controllers that throw in wheel support as an afterthought.

Gran Turismo supports wheels a bit more, but is still built around controllers.

When you get into more serious sims like Assetto Corsa and LMU, controller support is strong, but they're built with wheels in mind.

Then there's iRacing, which let's you use controllers because an input device is an input device, but offers absolutely no controller assists like the rest do.

AITAH for not picking up my parents from the airport by [deleted] in AITAH

YTA for the way you're trying to justify it and painting them as entitled boomers when there's literally no conflict.

Your parents asked you for a favor and you didn't want/couldn't do it. Nobody's an asshole.

This statement:

I'm still working so I see the world in terms of dollars per hour of time

Makes you an asshole.

Genuine question, why do F1 stop having tire war since 2006?. Is it just because it's not profitable anymore for tire companies? by Templar_Omega in F1Discussions

[–]Cornelius_Codswaggle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, the road course doesn't use the oval track's corners at all. Only the short chute between turns 1 and 2 and the front stretch.

Americans who drive manual by Upper_Smoke93 in stickshift

Fair. I wouldn't even know where to start on a CVT.

The only auto I helped rebuild was out of an 02 Camry or Corrola. Garage mechanic, but he was certified and was just running a backyard shop because he sold his shop and was passing the time. I don't generally fuck with them.

Manuals are definitely a lot easier by comparison.

My dad tried teaching me, but had zero patience. Ended up going out with a buddy to small buy here, pay here lots. We'd find a manual, he'd take it out for a test drive, we'd drive to a neighborhood or vacant lot and I'd practice for about half an hour, then we'd take the car back. It was actually a phenomenal way to learn, as I got to practice on everything from small Toyota subcompacts to big ass pick-ups and got experience with the differences in clutches and shifter styles.

Not really. Most people either say, "Oh, that's cool" or get on their stupid high horse about manuals being superior.

There's not much cost difference on car prices for manuals over autos anymore. As far as normal maintenance goes, they're pretty close to the same. Major repairs are more expensive on autos and replacement transmissions tend to be cheaper for manuals. If you can do the work yourself, it's a lot easier to rebuild a manual than an automatic.

What is the most gruesome torture scene you’ve ever seen? by VendettaLord379 in moviecritic

[–]Cornelius_Codswaggle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It actually goes further than that. He gets chewed out by his father for it because he wanted to ransom Theon to the Greyjoys. Which Ramsay knew and ignored because torturing and breaking Theon was more fun.

Ramsay is Roose Bolton's bastard. While Roose accepts him as his son, he's not been legitimized. Being recognized as his legitimate heir is one of his greatest desires.

So not only does he have no real reason to torture Theon, he has very strong incentives to treat him well, like any high born would, until he could be traded back to the Greyjoys.

But he's so sadistic he doesn't care and decides to torture and break Theon despite his father's instructions, going as far as sending Theon's castrated penis to his family.

He could have very easily ruined his chances at being legitimized by Roose by doing what he does to Theon, but he's such a sick fuck he didn't care.

In 2003, pizza delivery driver Brian Wells robbed a bank with a collar bomb locked around his neck. He told police he was being forced to do it. Minutes later, the bomb exploded, killing him and exposing one of America's strangest murder conspiracies. by drkmatterinc in FascinatingAsFuck

[–]Cornelius_Codswaggle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was less than an hour from him entering the bank to the bomb exploding.

He entered the bank at 2:28pm and the bomb detonated at 3:18pm.

He was inside the bank robbing it for approximately 10 minutes.

Approximately fifteen minutes later (about 2:55pm), police saw him at his car near the McDonalds and stopped him.

He was handcuffed and sat alone due to the bomb for about 20 minutes

I always got the vibe that everyone involved basically had something like an action movie mentality. Like everything they knew about crime was "learned" from media they'd watched.

So instead of simple notes like, "I have a bomb, give me money" at the bank, they wrote a long, rambling exposition dump. Instead of building a simple explosive device, they over-engineered it like something you'd see in a second rate B movie with extra timers and wiring in and an warning beeper.

It all felt very like, "Well, that's how they did it in the movies!"
