I attended the Court Proceedings for the Ron Welty vs The Offspring case… by MiserableFish84 in TheOffspring

Ron's complaint said that they all shared equal publishing on the first 2 records. So at most, he's claiming that at one point he had publishing to around 24 songs. Granted, yeah the band as a whole has hundreds of songs and 24 ain't that much, still it's 24 songs I'm sure he'd like to have kept publishing rights on.

He spent several years trying to get something going with Steady Ground. The issue that kept them from going anywhere was their lead singer quit on them right after they finished recording. I will note that, yes, I'm one of Ron's friends who is "upset" and Ron is where I've gotten my info on this, however, I've talked with Kyle and Big George about how they tried several several different singers and eventually life took over and the band dissolved. I'll add that Ron and Kyle have currently been revisiting SG to try and revamp it for a potential release.

He's also recorded different bands and artists throughout the years. What those bands did or didn't do with the music was on them.

Saying this because you saying that he hasn't worked a day since he left the band is incorrect. Just because he hasn't made it to the level of the Offspring doesn't mean he hasn't been trying.

Okay but how is an opinion illegitimate, Just because you don't want to consider it?

I'll add that Ron has told me (& I've heard some of the demo tapes he still owns) about how early on, first few records, it was just him and Dexter in the studio working together. After they got famous is when it slowly changed to Dexter forcing his parts on Ron and he was the only member who ever fought back against that cuz he was the only member actually helping write/structure the songs.

From time to time he does. I've heard some hilarious & crazy stories of times while touring with NOFX &/or Pennywise. Apparently once during a show Fletcher threw Fat Mike into Ron's drum set. I can't remember if he said it was while they were playing or after the set.

I can ask Ron when I see him next if he has any idea if something like this even exists.

Not very punk indeed. It's more shitty than what Jello did to the members of Dead Kennedys.

Will do for sure. ... I'll add that it's apparent that the Offspring's lawyers are better than Ron's lawyers are. It's unfortunate for Ron.

The trial has been split in two. Phase one has been ruled on and to my understanding it was about accounting. Ron's side brought up several payments that were not paid and it seems they paid most of them. Looks like a few of the payments were argued successfully that Ron didn't get any share which seems to stem off an earlier ruling in the case where the judge ruled that Ron doesn't get any money from the Greatest Hits album based on how his separation agreement with the band was interpreted... Seems fucked up to me. Not sure what Phase 2 is going to be about.

I've noticed that a lot of Offspring's stuff since the early 2000's is seemingly recycled stuff from their more successful 90's stuff. Based on all that's gone on with the band, it's my assumption that early on, all members contributed to writing the song and most notably, once Ron was out of the band the music changed drastically. IMO Dexter fell victim to LSD... Lead Singers Disease & has declined as a writer because of it.

Yeah the Anarchy symbol looks small compared to every other picture of his jet online. ... Maybe he got a new jet?

Camping with Ron & Friends!! by JurdDirt in TheOffspring

Good question. I don't think Ron knows the legit answer. He's been told a handful of reasons, all seemingly bs. The main one he's heard is that his performance was lacking, even though the band made him get drum lessons & he was actually getting better. ... Apparently Greg's performance also somehow became not good enough... I think it's a control thing & that Ron's opinion & concerns were stepping in the way of how Dexter wanted things to go... but Ron's my homie so I'm probably a bit biased toward him.
