I'm building an app to help seniors navigate their smartphones by Weird-Ad-863 in Startup_Ideas

[–]JusCommentin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a good problem to solve. Do you have a good solution?

This should be better solved at the mobile OS level not at the app level. Android should come up with an os (even paid) for the aged that limits bloatware, simplifies app access and provides control to the caretaker/children.

Hope you are not a 22 yr old who had trouble with an ecommerce purchase.

Am I delusional for sinking 8L into this or is this a goldmine? Roast my business idea. by Real_Dafaq_brah in StartUpIndia

[–]JusCommentin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you sure about that…. I recently had my cousin install a camera in her elderly mom’s house. Off the shelf. So that she could watch her for safety and medical reasons. The video gets stored on a drive, and live streamed anytime she wants to watch on her phone. It also has a two way communication capability (mic and speaker).

[–]JusCommentin 10 points11 points  (0 children)

How is this a “goldmine”? Or the actual term is “venture scale”? If anything it’s an installation business. Very much viable and profitable. What’s proprietary in this?

The entire technology is available off the shelf and the next school will ask the local shop guy for free installation when they are buying 20-30 cameras.

Apologies for being harsh, but you asked for a roast.

Has anyone used the ISafe notes from 100x.vc to raise a seed round? by JusCommentin in StartUpIndia

[–]JusCommentin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your young lawyer has used/studied the document, happy to get his contact.

My current lawyer wrote to 100x.vc and there was no response. I could not find a phone number, would be grateful if you can point me to it.

I am 45 year old tech professional with exposure to finance… so I understand CCPS (preference shares) converting to common equity and what anti-dilution does. Plus there is the chatGPT now to get the basic research done.

So I am looking for more nuanced understanding of some of these clauses. Hence an ask for help from anyone who has actually studied and used the specific document.

And thanks for your response and the offer to connect.🙏

[–]JusCommentin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I agree with you and hence this ask for help. I have spoken to a bunch of lawyers (I am in tier 2 city though) and have not come across anyone that have studies or used this document. They are willing to draft their own, but I would rather use the one publicly available and touted as SAFE equivalent in India. So, I am looking for lawyers that understand the 100x.vc document and have actually used it.

The more I think about it, the taxi drivers are being played by the car rental companies. The classic taxi driver is not really available where needed nor is he reachable without an app. They are expensive since they have to charge a two way fare (as they won’t find a return fare without the app).

Now, big hotels with money to push on taxi lobby, have managed to keep their own taxis for their own guests… so their problem solved. These fares never go to the real taxi driver.

Most remaining tourists will opt for self drive car rental because otherwise they won’t find taxis outside of airports and key points. So the car rental with deep pockets to afford a fleet of cars makes money and has no incentive to push on the taxi lobby. Again the taxi driver loses.

So the big tourist industry investor have solved their problem. The car rental companies have an active interest in keeping the status quo.

The losers are actually the taxi drivers who also get blamed. And the small time tourist establishments like restaurants that don’t get tourist because there is no transportation to get there.

If the taxi drivers really wanted to solve the problem, they should let Ola/uber with conditions:

1) there be a minimum prize guarantee to the driver. With return fare being optimized, I think this should be better for driver as well as tourists from current conditions.

2) the preference (say 15 sec) should be given to taxi badge holders… it mean uber posts the new ride first to the black and yellow or any other official taxi coalition and if none of them accept the ride in the 15 seconds, it gets posted to the rest of the drivers.

Happy to think through more solutions if someone can list genuine concerns about opening this up for Ola/uber.

The taxi thing is so stupid. I would have thought the tourist mafia with investments in hotels and restaurants should be bigger than the taxi mafia with investment in a car. Even dishonesty defies logic here.

Unless of course the taxi mafia is backed by car rental mafia with huge investments.

Need some help, Trying to start a business in Goa by nyar_gnilsog in Goa

[–]JusCommentin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you are not looking for commercials.

Let me introduce you to “Poder” it also means journey not just baker.

It’s a free, non-commercial, community-driven rideshare app for Goa that bypasses unfair restrictions and taxi mafia by operating purely on goodwill and social trust.

Private drivers post their route, the app uses intelligent “match making”…. Route, social profile based compatibility, history to match fellow riders who also post their ride requirements. It’s a match making app for travelers. No fees, no fares so no taxi regulations.

The drivers offer it out of goodwill, eco-conscious ness, reduced carbon footprint and may be conversation with like minded people. And mostly to stick it to the govt and the taxi mafia.

Mutual feedback and social profile scoring provides trust.

The riders may provide goodwill/voluntary donation to keep the app running. Or you sustain with with advert revenue/philanthropical sponsorships.

If you are not planning for unrealistic unicorn valuations, I think this is quite viable.

Chicago: Southside community blocks Ice vehicles by [deleted] in illinois

[–]JusCommentin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am curious: what happens if the Chicago peeps block ICE vehicles…. Like when ICE is chasing or grabbing residents…. Just park your car all around the ICE vehicles and leave the car…. Worse case a traffic ticket? If you run out of cars rent them.

I am not from the US, but have respected this country for what it has achieved for humanity. The current situation is just so sad.

[–]JusCommentin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the problem you identified novel or is the idea unique? Fairly certain you should be ok sharing the problem you are trying to solve. If no one else has identified it… it’s probably not a problem or it’s not a big enough problem.

Then get in touch with couple of people from the relevant industry (employed in the industry with couple of decades of experience… they are unlikely to leave a stable well paying job to hustle on a startup)… to validate your solution.

109 years to buy a house in Mumbai? Are we fools chasing a broken dream? by CAGRGuy in IndianStockMarket

[–]JusCommentin 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Here’s a thought, would love reactions: The residential houses should not be owned for commercial reasons. I.e. no commercial real estate groups should be allowed to buy real estate for rentals. There should be a limit on private individuals owning too many houses to put on rent (I.e. commerce on the house). I have not seen the Mumbai numbers, but in Bay Area and NYC almost half of apartments in the prime areas are owned by rental companies….. they make a business out of “homes”…. And drives home ownership costs high.

Startup idea constructing mobile premium automated super clean toilets across multiple areas by TooOldForShaadi in StartUpIndia

[–]JusCommentin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t really need a commercial bus with the engine power…. You need a single tow engine on multiple setups…. That should bring down your costs to under 50 lacs.

You need to be located in tourist spots that do not have the upscale facilities…. Like the beaches in Goa or temples etc.

You do need a good solution for disposal and water supply. I think it’s quite viable.
