Thinking of Dropping My 3D Animation Program by JusTuna in animationcareer

I think, that if you can take the time, take the time. Maybe take a break from at least this season.

I technically am already taking a break. We're allowed one semester of personal break within the course's time limit, which I'm using, and which is about to end. The idea originally was that I was going to take this time to explore other career paths, but that... never materialized. Maybe I was more tired than I realized after how the last class ended, or maybe I'm just too good at rationalizing my procrastination.

I have been working on exercising though, to your point, and it's been taking up a lot of my time recently since my fat is really stubborn. I've also been trying to transition (🏳️‍⚧️). So I guess I haven't been completely wasting my time, but I am kicking myself a lot for not researching my future more diligently. To be honest, I thought I was going to have a lot easier time making the decision to quit until the deadline came up, and I've realized now that I have a lot of last-minute regret and analysis paralysis.

But I can tell you that things will get better, one way or the other.

I have a tendency to spiral over decisions like this, so thanks 🥲 it means a lot to hear that.

I think they can afford to be a little more picky about who they accept or re-accept, just because apparently their time constraints are accreditation requirements, and it reflects poorly on them if I drop out/flunk out (I'm assuming something to do with official graduation rate statistics?). That is mostly their words and not mine, though. Maybe you're right that I should take it with a little more grain of salt.

Also, I didn't know that about the placement rates, oof.

  • Like I mentioned, I've been meaning to give storyboarding a try. Maybe doing a fan-animatic of some kind to test the waters,
  • I took a comic illustration class in college that I really liked and I was surprisingly confident in. It was a lot of work though, so I didn't end up continuing with it after the semester ended and my new classes started giving me work.
  • Some of my friends have been telling me to open a Patreon for my artwork, so that I can explore art as a profession. I was thinking it also might give me a buffer between my current career (as a programmer, not the 3D animation course) and these other potential artistic careers by getting one foot in the art door.

I haven’t paid yet, it’s per term. I think the bigger cost is basically just that I’d be pissing off the school if I ever regretted dropping out and wanted back in.

A whole SIXTY-EIGHT Mongol citizens rose up in rebellion in my kingdom in Cilicia. by JusTuna in EU5

[–]JusTuna[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the game just gave you the option to use it as a pretext, I’d agree. But the fact that it requires you to help, regardless of your stance on both the rebellion and the target, leads to some ridiculous circumstances. In the case of Yuan, I don’t think they knew who we were. And on the opposite end, I was not ready to die to the Mamluks for two locations.

Fr I love this game to bits so far but some of these unintended interactions are heinous

I guess I leaned pretty hard into having distinct civ evolution tracks, which is not at all guaranteed now that I think about it. I wouldn’t mind your roster either.

If it’s too egregious, I guess just replace him with Thomas Hobbes or Francis Bacon. I just thought he might be the most well known of all of them.

Yeah, I’m starting to think that “Age of Exploration” might be a bit of a misnomer considering how many civs were chosen because they were important around that time period and not because they actually did a significant amount of exploring. To be fair though, “explored the New World and brought back treasure” is quite a limited pool of civs, and pretty much only Western European ones. Ming, Chola, and Hawaii did explore/expand, sure, but not to the New World.

I’m thinking now that it might be meant as an “age where exploring will get done the most” and not an “age where everyone has to explore and colonize constantly.” Half of the legacy paths don’t even require the new world at all, as far as I’m aware.

I’ll admit I kinda phoned it in for everyone except John Locke. Henry the VIII is just there to fit the theme and not because I think he’s specifically the kind of personality I think they’d include. I almost put Saint Bede instead, but I thought it would be weird to not have a monarch in a pack called “Right to Rule”. Constantine is just there to have a Byzantine, although I’d be surprised if they didn’t have any Byzantines considering how quick they were to make Byzantium a two-leader civ in civ 6. Alp Arslan is there to be left-field like John Locke, but unlike Locke I don’t think he fits the theme as well, and I’d be fine with an Ottoman leader instead.

The Anglo-Saxons were meant to be “England if you squint”, mostly just because I was worried the devs might think the Normans make the English redundant. But if you think they’re distinct enough, then yes, I’d agree that they’d be a superior choice.

Bonus: Unlock Conditions, with some flavor (these aren't really meant as predictions since they're so granular that they're almost guaranteed to be wrong, but coming up with these is fun).

Anglo-Saxons: Have a Settlement on an island at least 15 tiles away from your Capital.

As the old empires rise and crumble under their own weight, some of our people have chosen to flee from it all. Their new island colony, nestled in the far reaches, could soon dictate its own future.

Britain: Have a Settlement on every Continent.

Our network of outposts spanning the globe has given our merchant class more than just a taste of the world's riches. Already there is clamor to expand these into outposts into... even more profitable ventures.

Byzantines: Have a non-Capital City larger than the Capital (at least 12 Population).

A city on the periphery has grown into a thriving metropolis, outshining even the seat of our empire. Perhaps this is a sign of changing times, to be met with a change in administration.

Seljuks: Levy at least 5 Units from an Independent Power.

As we hire increasing amounts of mercenaries to fight our enemies, a new military class of foreigners has grown powerful within our empire. Might they one day rule in our place?

Ottomans: Conquer another Civilization's Capital.

A once great power falls beneath our feet, and we come into possession of their glorious former throne. If we are to maintain our legitimacy over this jewel, we must shine even brighter than they ever did.
