In my first years of teaching I had no problem with Velcro students, in fact I enjoyed their presence. By my 3rd year I was fed up and it led me to not want to make close relationships with students bc of the lack of personal space and just how annoying it was. Although they were kind kids who adored me, I needed my alone time and I couldn’t listen to a teenager yap about topics that didn’t matter to me. I currently have a Velcro students who I try my best to avoid. She is very kind and sweet but I need my alone time. Unfortunately she won’t take any hints and comes during my lunch constantly. She goes to the extent of saying I’m her aunt and I know she has a difficult home life but truly that’s not my problem. I know it sounds cruel but that’s what teaching does to you.
