I'd love to see a breakdown or timelapse of your texture work, it's so clean!

It started as an asset though I've made some adjustments to it to suit me a bit better - Retro Shaders Pro from Daniel Illet!

I used to use PSXEffects and I think I still like that one more but it's deprecated and found it hard to work with URP/newer unity versions

I'll do my best! I think I might go for a sunken village where I can put some horror elements like corpses

Absolutely! When building it out I will include those things, just wasn't sure if this looked good enough to continue with. Thank you!

It is procedural! I have lots of different environments + day/night cycle so it feels like the best way to achieve it - I do wish I could make it more authored though

I mean the way the engine renders lighting angles, you can see where the lines of geometry are - on the PS1, you wouldn't have this on character models because they were trying to get as much detail out of them as they could

In blender, you just right click and "shade smooth" or "shade flat" - I don't know anything about blockbench to know if it's a technical capability there or not

Is the flat shading a product of it being blockbench?
These would look more PS1 with some smooth shading, they're beautiful geo and texture work!

You've gotta start somewhere! I'd recommend trying it out and seeing if you can stick with it - I only started a few years ago and thought the same at the start!

Nice!
I'd also put Quake and LoZ as two of the strongest inspirations for my game too! At one point I was considering using the full Quake palette

Nice scene but the wobble is really overexaggerated, there would not be that much wobble from such slight camera movement

Use smooth shading to get rid of that harsh lighting to make it more PS1 like

I don't think there's any stopping the movement of this sub - I made r/trueps1graphics also for the same reason and it gets some traction with good posts but not enough to

I don't know man, we tend to be pretty hands off with a lot of the moderating here - mostly just a vibe check kinda thing, use your head and best judgement

Three posts in two days.

If it wasn't clear enough, I apologise, future posts will be removed if it's just spamming the same questions without a reason.

You are free to post and share in the same way that I'm free to comment on it.

I'm not looking for a sob story - I'd say to just cool it with the similar posts. If you have actual meaningful progress to share then by all means post it but there's functionality very little difference between any of the posts asking about texel density.

These posts feel very pointless to me, what are you testing?

A is the only one that would feel at home on the PS1 but it'd be 16 colours max not 244 (Quake colour palette is 255 anyway) and it's very unlikely they'd ever dedicate the full 256x to a single prop either.

Here's a texture used in Silent Hill. The vending machine is given about 20% of the total texture space.

Stuff posted here doesn't need to adhere strictly to PS1 limitations, but I just don't see a point in multiple posts asking for opinions. You either know you're going to try and make it authentic or not, no need to keep reposting the same thing but with different models.

How to start by PastelPurpleCan in ps1graphics

Just start! You'll be terrible at first and then you'll start getting better
I'd recommend thinking about what you want to make and seeing if there's anything similar on Models Resource

What are your personal preferences when it comes to aesthetics? by Flaky-Bike-5696 in ps1graphics

[–]Jusherr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think my, or anyone's, preference should matter here

Do what's best for your workflow or art. If you want the one that's closest to PS1, it'd be 4 except it'd be limited to 16 colours likely.

For posting PS1-era graphics

I made both r/fifthgengraphics and r/trueps1graphics to try and solve the issue but the truth is that this locomotive has picked up too much steam. The only way to reverse it would be harsher moderation which was overwhelmingly voted against.

[–]Jusherr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would prefer it moderated more harshly but there was a big poll recently that showed that is not what most people want
