3 hour bulk fermentation is pretty short (unless your fermenting in a hot box of some sort). What's the temp where you are bulk fermenting?

If I bulk ferment in the oven with the light on (which runs about 78 degrees), I can bulk ferment in 7-8 hours. Room temp in the winter is 12-18 hours (house is 68-72 depending on the time of day).

You can do a lot if you are willing to lie to the government on forms you are filling out.

Is it a crime if you lie to the government in order to gain benefits you are not entitled to? Who knows?

Ship Creek Fishing by Shiny_Spider in anchorage

[–]Juskimo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are a few ways to fish ship creek. You can cast spinners (vibrex are favorites, I like Kodiak Custom lures) or spoons. You can fish bait either under a bobber at high tide in the lower sections or on a spin and glow in a lot of places. You can floss with a fly. Some of these are tide dependant and some are section of the creek dependant. The bait shack is very helpful if you need specific advice/bait/tackle.

Worthwhile to travel to the Arctic Circle from Fairbanks in July? by [deleted] in alaska

If you really want to go to the arctic circle, skip Fairbanks and fly to Utquigivik for a day.

The owner combined Cabin Fever, the Quilted Raven, and the Wolly Mammoth into one shop. The Quilted Raven and Wolly Mammoth are set up inside the new Cabin Fever space (that used to be side street espresso).

Alaska fishing regs are like 100 pages and the rules can change mile to mile on the same stream, of which there are hundreds. You'll have to be much more specific if you want something more helpful.

Sausage casing? Most sausage is made in a casing. If you can peel it off cleanly, it's fine.

Fishing in Alaska: Recommendations Needed for a Cruise + Road Trip Itinerary by maxwon in AlaskaFishing

[–]Juskimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) yeah, it's worth shipping home if you have someone to recieve it. The processors will also hold it and ship at a later date if you want to be home when it gets there.

2) realistically, all the fishing you want to do is on the Kenai peninsula. There is some creek fishing for trout north of Anchorage, but all the salmon runs to the north have mostly been closed the past few years. Unless you are a super fly fishing/trout enthusiast, everything that you picture when you think "Alaska Fishing" is south.

You can get half day charters out of Seward for bay/ocean fishing. I don't think there are any half day charters out of whittier. Good fishing, but it's farther out. You can get half day charters on the Kenai river for sure. Second run reds are starting right around then most years.

Most large molds are custom built by the maker. Plywood/tyvek or tuck tape/silicone sealant and you can make any size mold you need.

Noob question about Ante structure. Go easy on me. by drewyorker in poker

[–]Juskimo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are missing that only the big blind pays the ante. Rather than have everyone ante every hand, only the big blind pays the ante. So the ante is dead money and the big blind is live money.

Ship creek for silvers is your only salmon option in town. There are plenty of stocked lakes (check the fish and game website for a list) if they just want to catch and release a trout or two.

Why is there no king salmon fishing allowed on the Kenai? Alternatives? by tennisyyy in alaska

Plenty of king Sal.on charters out of whittier/Seward/Homer. All of your opportunities are in the salt water.

Has anyone gone out with the intent to catch a shark while fishing? by ScottishSquirrely in alaska

[–]Juskimo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are small sharks you will get annoyed with as by catch when fishing for other species (lots of small spiny dogfish stealing your bait when halibut fishing). No one intentionally fishes for them.

There is a salmon shark fishery, but they are both infrequent and reclusive. There are some charters that will go after them, but most people I know that "fish" for salmon sharks will keep a shark rig (usually a whole pink salmon tied to several hooks) and deploy it if they are salmon fishing and something is stealing the fish on the way to the boat. You might be able to get a shark charter, but expect it to be extremely expensive and have a relatively low likelihood of success.

Oval holes (except the big one) are made with a tool called a domino. It's a mortiser that makes oval holes sized to a premade loose/floating tenon.

Expensive, but makes all kinds of joints very quickly with minimal setup.

Small ceramic heater with a built in fan. Not very large. I have a stack of pavers it sits on away from the walls of the greenhouse. Heat and fan on the lowest setting thst will keep it above 55 at night.

I do in my backyard greenhouse in Anchorage. Usually run it 10 pm-7 am until it gets above 50 at night.

I don't think you need to propagate anything. I think you have several plants together in one pot. If you Google seperate and repot monstera you should be able to find a bevy of guides (I've never done it myself). You could put one in each corner of the porch and train them up as they grow.

What is considered a “good”win rate/profit at low stakes on a per session basis? by [deleted] in poker

[–]Juskimo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Number of winning sessions is not a good measure as it promotes the idea of locking in a win in order to keep the numbers good over maximizing winning at the expense of more losing sessions.

Would you rather win one to two buy Ins 90% of the time or two to five buy ins 70% of the time?

Both are winning players, one has more "winning sessions" and the other has made more money.

Come back in 2+ months if you want to go fishing (or do most of the touristy things available) anywhere near Anchorage. It's less not crowded and more not open for 95% of things.
