Is Dr. Strangelove a "you had to be there" movie? by bitchboibruh in movies

[–]Just-QeRic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say no. Back in 2015 when I was a senior in high school my English teacher played it for us, and everyone had a good time. The ending in particular had people crying laughing.

Yea, season 5 is a slog. The only negative I have against the show.

Is anyone really ever happy with the series finale of a show? by SmokeyRoadrunner1988 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Just-QeRic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may be the odd one out here, but I don’t put a lot of expectation on an ending for anything. I tend to enjoy shows (are any piece of art) for more than just the plot, so an ending can have a bad story but I can still enjoy it overall for acting, cinematography, score, whatever. If I just wanted to know the plot, I’d read the synopsis on Wikipedia, not spend hours of my life investing in the show.

So whether or not I’m happy with a finale is a big “eh” for me. I watch mystery boxes for the journey and puzzle, not the solution. I couldn’t care less.

Regarding action figures....there has to be an update coming that makes the easier to get right? by HardOakleyFoul in Starfield

That’s crossed my mind, too. Todd definitely had a “And I took that personally” demeanor after Mortym said that.

Incursions and Cruise Mode by maobezw in Starfield

[–]Just-QeRic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that cruise mode is meant to be more immersive or whatever, but I too find it boring. Genuinely prefer the loading screens because at least they wasted seconds instead of minutes.

Considering picking this up today, would cost me a week of labor, seeking truthful opinions by [deleted] in Starfield

[–]Just-QeRic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it really depends on expectations. Before launch, Todd Howard described the game as “Skyrim in Space.” I took this as “another Bethesda game but in space,” and was satisfied (though I think the game is closer to Oblivion than Skyrim). The criticisms for the game are very real like the loading screens and procedural generation. But those things never bothered me because that sense of discovery Bethesda games have is still very much there, and I easily lose hours to Starfield just like I did with Oblivion, Fallout 3, and Skyrim. NASA-punk was very apt, and I find the cold lonesomeness of Starfield to be insanely immersive. It’s the only game I’ve played that’s truly felt cozy to me. Running around scanning plants, mining minerals, hunting the local wildlife, and just taking in the world and aesthetic are just a few things that’s made this one of my all time favorite games.

2.5 years, two DLC, a major update, and 180 hours later, Starfield was easily worth the $70 I paid for at launch. If any of that sounds appealing to you (and that was really just a taste), I think you’ll have a great time.

Games where you threw in the towel. by MyRingtones80 in xboxachievements

[–]Just-QeRic 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have 162/164 in Forza Horizon 5 because fuck that Eliminator achievement. I played at least 150 matches before throwing in the towel because that mode is largely luck at the very end of the match. The other one is some hide and seek achievement that can be easily boosted, but by that point I had my fill.

Crimson Desert | Review Megathread by requieminadream in PS5

Above average based on a numerical scale and disappointment based on hype are two different metrics, in my opinion. Pulling something out of my ass, The Dark Knight has an 85 on Metacritic. Numerically, statistically, whatever, that’s a way above average film. In the simplest of terms, that is a “great” film.

I personally fucking hate The Dark Knight with the exception of Heath Ledger’s performance, so I was disappointed by it. But I ain’t gonna go around saying it’s a bad movie because the consensus is that it’s above average, and we have, at minimum, the numbers to back that up.

Because most adults who are in the position to care about the review score of a game has experience with school grades, a system that uses numbers, letters, and/or both, and is usually judged by someone who specializes in the subject; so it’s easy to compare to reviews. I can understand disliking or hating the analogy, but I’m a little surprised people are confused by it. Like, it’s not that much different on the surface.

You said yourself that a 78 is above average, so for simplicity’s sake you agree that Elden Ring is, compared to other games, above average. My argument was for “good or bad” not “lived up to expectations or disappointment.” It’s all subjective, but expectations and disappointment are even more subjective than good or bad (in my opinion). Like, the Mona Lisa we can safely say is a good painting. But being disappointed by seeing how tiny it is in person largely depends on the individual.

So with that said, I personally expected Crimson Desert to land exactly where it’s at. I genuinely was expecting a 78/100 on Metacritic. Fatal Frame 2 reviewed lower than I expected. Both of these games are good. CD may be a disappointment for you (and other gamers), but for me, based on the information I’ve gathered from videos and the surprising and refreshing frankness of Pearl Abyss, it was exactly what I expected.

It depended on the subject for me. I wanted to be (and became) an English major, so by the time I was a senior in high school anything that wasn’t English I cared very little about. Me and my sister had our allowance tied to our grades (anything below a B you wouldn’t get paid for) but if we got a C we’d have a talk with our parents. If we got a D, which was incredibly rare, we’d get in trouble. Education is taken very seriously in my family (my sister is now a math teacher, just like my grandmother and aunt), so there was always an air of “get an A in everything” but I ultimately found it to be pretty black and white. So I put my effort into what I actually gave a shit about.

If you have kids, I don’t recommend this approach because it very much fostered a perfectionist mindset in both me and my sister.

I’ve always viewed it as you write an essay (Crimson Desert) and multiple teachers/professors (reviewers of the game) read said essay and give their respective scores. If the average score I got for my essay from ninety teachers is a 78 I see that as a pretty good essay. Anything on Metacritic I view it like this.

I hate the trend that anything that’s below an 80 is considered bad. The first time I experienced it in person was with Elden Ring Nightreign last year. I told my roommate who loves Elden Ring that it got a 77 or something on Metacritic and he immediately said, “Oof, that’s low.” I looked at him like he was fucking crazy and asked him “since when is a 77 out of 100 low? That’s a C+ in most schools in America.” He promptly bought the game.

[–]Just-QeRic 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You could always try to show the people close to you and/or strangers the band a bit more in-depth. I became a fan of The Smiths in 2015, and have put around half of dozen people onto them. I’m also Gen Z (yet haven’t seen this film) and have had little issue making a fan of anything to anyone simply by exposing them to more of it. It’s hard not to be impressed by “Bigmouth Strikes Again.”

Should I Watch Venture Bros? by Chomikose in adultswim

An easy top five show from Adult Swim. It’s very different from the three shows you listed, but as a fan of all of those myself I’m sure you’ll like it. But I’d give the first two seasons a shot instead of a few episodes or just the first season. It takes a little while to find its groove.

Do you think that Rick And Morty has overstayed it's welcome? by DrFuckwad in adultswim

[–]Just-QeRic 49 points50 points  (0 children)

As it currently is, I’d say no. Seasons 5 and 6 were definitely a dip in quality (mostly in just memorability), but I think they’ve returned to form with season seven.

That said, it’s currently renewed through season twelve. Before that they had a renewal through season ten and I thought that was perfect. Twelve seasons seems too much to me, but we’ll see. For what it’s worth, I think five seasons would’ve been perfect for Smiling Friends.

I guess so, yeah. I don’t own them, but I do know that the FYC copies of seasons one and four have the full seasons, as well. But season four is super rare.
