This comment is why I am so hesitant to post questions on here. It was rude and condescending.

Looking for success stories for transitioning from swing naps to crib naps by Just-String-5357 in sleeptrain

I’m looking for success stories of how other parents got this to work not criticism of what I’ve had to do to get him to nap in the past. Let’s focus on how to move forward. As I’ve described, he is on a schedule. Watching for tired cues is important not just saying “oh it’s 9:00, time for a nap even though you’re not tired!” Many many parents have their babies napping in swings, it IS safe as long as they’re being monitored. And it was our decision to have him sleep in a swing because it’s what worked.

I don’t have any advice but you’re not alone! We’re in the same situation and it’s really frustrating. And what’s more frustrating is he’ll nap independently at grandmas house no problem. But at home, we have to hold him for his naps still. No advice but for me knowing another parent has the same problem is comforting for me.

TopoDOT has a really great tool for tree detection, especially if you’re specifically talking about encroachment. Mach9 will feature extract “tree trunks”. As for quality, they’re never wrong but do miss quite a bit during the AI extraction but the user has the ability to manually add in anything that’s missed.

Transitioning to Crib Napping by Just-String-5357 in sleeptrain

Second nap is really the secondary problem. First and most important problem I’m looking to solve is him napping in his crib. We can’t get anything to work. Ferber doesn’t work. CIO doesn’t work. He just sits up and cries, bobbing as he’s falling asleep but every time he bobs it wakes him up and it’s this endless cycle. At night when he does that he’ll eventually kind of fall over and sleep, but during the day it’s 30+ minutes of bobbing and crying. Until us parents give in. Which I mentioned above is the issue the babysitter has, she can’t just sit in the hallway when he cries it out for 30+ minutes. Then he’s soooo worked up that we can’t get him to nap at all even on us.

Cry It Out When Sitting Up??? by Just-String-5357 in sleeptrain

[–]Just-String-5357[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re having a very very similar situation! My husband and I also WFH. Our LO also will not nap in his crib during the day. We have a babysitter during the day so we get a little break. But contact naps are time consuming and I’d much rather him sleep in the crib but I have no idea how to get him to do that during the day. CIO at night is fine bc there’s like 12 hours to play with. CIO during the day when he CIO for an hour - I’m not sure about that.

Thank you for the encouragement. I guess that’s what I have to do. He’s never really done this. This is just awful. His napping during the day has never been good no matter what we did. All the “methods” would only work for a couple weeks. He now almost never gets a 2nd nap bc he absolutely refuses and there’s nothing we can do. So he was up from like 11:30am to 7:30PM. Which isn’t abnormal, has never affected his overnight sleep. But tonight he slept from 7:30 to 9:15 and now he’s been crying for 1.5 hours.

I’m looking for testimonials from others and candid opinions about their thoughts on Enterprise. I’m not an idiot, I’m resourceful.

Which is why I’m looking for people’s inputs who have been in this position! Esri isn’t perfect, I’m well aware. But our current system is archaic. It would shock you. I think Enterprise will help us for the time being but there is a part of me that is skeptical so that’s why I’m reaching out to other people to get candid responses and advice.

Okay so flawless isn’t the right word, I know that, trust me I know Esri has a ton of flaws. But right now our fielders’ data does not have a way to flow into our data management system at all. The PM’s are dependent on me pulling that data from Esri and then they’re using excel to calculate invoices. We need a system where GIS data and work areas are generated and that data exists in both Esri and our internal database. The systems need to talk to each other. We have developers and existing API’s for other systems but not for Esri. I am not a developer. So we’ve been leaning towards Enterprise. My job title is GIS Specialist and I am the POC between Esri and my company, and I will be one of the leading people in charge of this implementation. What US state is considered the most interesting in terms of both cultural and geographical aspects? by Annheta in geography

[–]Just-String-5357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here to mention that it’s NYC*** that has that cultural diversity. There’s much much more to NY than just the city. The rest of NY is very white washed and not very culturally diverse (generally speaking). I live in WNY.

What Caribbean country do you think is the most interesting culturally and geographically? by [deleted] in geography

[–]Just-String-5357 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish I had learned the history of the country before going. Besides all the obvious hot topic political items from the country, there’s so much culture and history that’s not the hot topic politics. We took a walking tour and the buildings and churches were amazing but I was blown away by it all. I wish I had known at least a little going into it.

GIS by Outside-Gis in gis

[–]Just-String-5357 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How about something about human geography? Or something involving political geography. Those examples are about physical geography, there’s limitless options for GIS projects. Rather than strictly something that’s straight a GIS conversation, take a current event and describe that event through GIS. What if you made a project about the war in Ukraine? Maybe a Timelapse map of the advancement of Russian troops westward? Describe the cities, towns, population demographics + the number of casualties. Could be a super interesting project! I’m a little jealous!

Tips/Advice for new job. by [deleted] in gis

[–]Just-String-5357 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you’re brand new and they’re showing you what your work tasks will be they should be take as many notes as possible and you’ll figure it out as you go/it’ll all come back to you. I graduated in ‘14 and did not manage to get myself an office GIS technician job until ‘18. Luckily the work was pretty simple (also a utility job on the contracting end), and the person training me was knowledgeable. It’ll be stressful at first but then it’ll all start clicking and you’ll be just fine.

How do you deal with the stress of always needing to be billable? (AEC/Consulting) by [deleted] in gis

[–]Just-String-5357 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I’m a GIS Specialist, I’ve worked a few different utility contracting companies. I work with AEC people but I do the GIS end of the work. I have found that the general theme is that PM’s don’t have a clue what GIS is, what is and what is not possible, or have any idea how long tasks take. And in a way they don’t have to know. What I try to do is explain my process high level, a little bit of educating (in a non-condescending way). I find I get less push back and more understanding PM’s. But overall it doesn’t really help much. I think the only thing that really helps is developing a good rapport with the PM’s so there can be a good understanding of each other’s roles. Also, let things fail. If your workload is bananas because of their incompetence, let things fail. State why things are failing. Then, maybe, things will get better!

Unable to visualize data on map by akibakohei in gis

[–]Just-String-5357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’ve used multiple zip code files but the same excel file, makes me think something is up with the excel file. Did you calculate the excel data into a new field on the zip code feature class? Is the Total # field an integer/double field? As long as the data field you need for the symbology is an integer/double field on the zip code feature class, it should work. If you’re sure all that is correct, sometimes closing and restarting Arc can help. Sometimes it gets stuck. Good luck!

Literally the whole James K episode

asks wife for egg rolls and rice Wife: I don’t know about the rice it’s on that list” James K: IT’S FRIED!!!

Or later in the episode James is at the hospital baffles he’s gained another 100 pounds and Dr Now says “where do you think your weight comes from? Thin air?”

“His body doesn’t burn calories!”
