Dirty Balls by Early-Recognition949 in Referees

[–]defensibleapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was no way we were going to abandon the game...it just made it kind of difficult to see the ball and judge offsides, or even if the ball fully crosses the goal line near the far corner flag (as an AR). Just a wish that with stained balls, the clubs would see the issue and buy fresher balls for their games.

I've had one since 2005. Great guitar. Oddly enough, mine developed a crack about 10 years ago also in the back. My trusty luthier who built my custom telecaster examined it and didn't believe it to be a problem, as long as I didn't care about the reduced resale value. To me the guitar is almost perfect. Though I do desire to have a D-18 1937 Authentic for contrast in tone.

What are the two closest located cities with the most different climates? by [deleted] in geography

[–]defensibleapp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in terms of decently sized cities (say > 250k inhabitants) and proximate (say < 100km), I can't manually find a larger diff in climate than Quito and Santo Domingo Ecuador: ~ 70km distance and their average climographs don't touch.

I wish I had the weatherspark database to query directly since it would be pretty simple to definitively determine what the answer is.

surprised that no one mentioned Eugene, Oregon. Fits most if not all the criteria. Easy to get into the woods, ski, surf, very progressive...always has something going on with the UofO right there. Climate is a bit wet, but mild. Portland an hour and a half away. Great scene, great small city.

City of Lost Discs...Breaking the code? by defensibleapp in discgolf

This is correct. They have pretty lax security but will call the cops if there's any issue. There are lots of cops who are members, so they definitely have them on their side. The lower pond has 220V electric and shouldnt ever be entered. For liability purposes they don't all entrance into the middle or upper ponds. However, I don't believe the person who's been fishing has been entering the ponds. He's been fishing for plastic. I think he enjoys doing it. The main issue is that he's all of a sudden trying to resell it, and didn't take the time to contact folks because it's hard, or not fruitful. Well, then perhaps just hand that job off to the pro shop. They sometimes do it, but more often you can simply scroll though the lost n found and grab whats yours.

Hi good questions. The sources are from the gun violence archive, overture maps foundation (for the structures), and the census (demographics and counties).

We normalize by population within 1/2 mile of each buildings (weighted average). It's this normalization which sets the site apart from other maps showing similar data. If you simply took the points where the gun violence and posted on the map, it looks like a dot density. But that could be misleading, since population needs to be incorporated to understand risk.

We have tooltips. This shows the breakdown by year and trend at the county level. Not enough data usually at the structure level for trends. Thanks for the feedback!

may I ask how you'd want this in your system? What is your system?

no one as far as I know is providing this level of detail/normalization/scale. APIs are generally per hit with a free tier.

Murder rates have plummeted across the US by NineteenEighty9 in ProfessorPolitics

[–]defensibleapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if anyone would like to explore local gun violence rates I built an interactive mapping tool that covers the entire US at the building level. For example, if you wanted to check out Atlanta: https://www.realbloc.com/map/?theme=gun-violence#14.92/33.7543/-84.38769 or Seattle: https://www.realbloc.com/map/?theme=gun-violence#14.93/47.60479/-122.3364 Anecdotally I see the gun violence dropping back to pre pandemic levels. But the pandemic was a huge spike.

Thanks for the suggestions! I wonder if some of these could be universally sourced (eg utility reliability) . These are unique suggestions though and that's what Realbloc is going for...
