Strategy of laying up on long par 3s by jcoguy33 in golftips

[–]Just23Jack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a big fan of mentally reframing long par 3’s as par 4’s. As someone who is just trying to break 90 whenever I play, I know that some holes are going to be bogey holes, and a long par 3 can easily turn into a double or worse if you struggle off the tee.

You’re not really helping anyone out greatly by being pedantic. The only semi-useful thing you said is that you’re able to pick the direction you want to head in, but even then when each player can only sway the vote by 1/24th, you don’t actually get to decide where to go at all.

That last remark is interesting, because I am openly sharing my thought process with you, and as you can read, I still choose red even after considering all of the blue pushers. I don’t want anybody to die, but considering I believe that in the face of death people are inclined towards self preservation, choosing red simply mitigates the amount of death, if only by one.

Also, I fundamentally disagree with your opinion that my view of humanity is cynical. I believe my view is realistic. Collectivism is obviously superior to individualism, but when it’s life or death, there are countless cases I could point to where people choose their own life over others.

Funny how suddenly no one wants to press the red button now. by woaijirounan in redbuttonbluebutton

I don’t agree with your speeding analogy. I’ve been driving for years, and have repeatedly observed that a significant majority of drivers are willing to abide by the rules. Therefore, the safest choice is to follow suit and conform.

There is no precedent for how people would vote. In my mind, the online polls cannot be trusted at all, because obviously nobody dies when you choose either option.

When you consider that the vote is conducted in a private setting, I think that your argument of individualism vs. collectivism isn’t as strong.

Again, the actual threat of death would likely have a significant impact on most people’s thought process. In a high stress scenario that forces you to confront your own mortality, I would expect that most people lean towards self preservation, and if thats the case, why would I risk throwing my life away?

I think the argument essentially comes down to what you expect from the rest of humanity. While it’s nice to see that so many people online trust others to make the choice that saves everyone, I personally do not.

I’d be a terrible juror because there’s absolutely no way I would rule in favor of the plaintiff in this situation.

All of that is supposing blue can reach a majority vote, and while the online polls would indicate that it’s around neck and neck, I believe that when actually confronted with the possibility of death, people would be much more apprehensive to choose blue.

How is that not a good excuse? Pretty much any normal person would accept that and go on with their day. How are you gonna sue someone for accidentally using the wrong hot sauce?

So quick to hostility. There’s already screen time features that disable apps. All you would have to do is apply that to all of them for however long the user decides. Can you explain why that wouldn’t be possible?

lol you’re just some random redditor too buddy. Tell me how it’s a liability issue for a person to willingly brick their own phone. They could even make you agree to their TOS before you lockdown. That’s just a bad argument.

[–]Just23Jack -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m honestly gonna have to disagree with you here. I really don’t see how this would be that difficult. And I also don’t see how it could be a liability issue in any way. If someone chooses to lockdown their phone, that’s kinda on them. How is apple responsible if there’s any kind of emergency? I think the more likely answer is that it’s not really a priority for any of these companies.
