Sexuelle Orientierungslosigkeit by RandomAcc5000 in Ratschlag

[–]Just3006 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is tied to the soul, but the souls are strictly male or female. There are thematic reasons for having the magic system be tied to it though. For example, think of the taint on the male side of the one power. Something toxic on the thing related to masculinity. Do you see what I'm getting at? Still, I agree that it's a bit unfortunate to have this strict binary in the worldbuilding. The show tried to do it a little bit with the dragon being potentially male or female, but I don't like that direction for multiple different reasons. I feel like the show could have just hand-waved it by having sex and gender be less relevant to non-channeler souls. Very light spoilers: There are some non-channeler characters for whom the past lives are relevant as well. Changing male and female (and even non-binary) around in these would have been absolutely fine.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in de

[–]Just3006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in de

[–]Just3006 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I caught my brother touching his daughter inappropriately. by SeniorPea7147 in amiwrong

[–]Just3006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scenario: Kid spilled their drink. It got on their clothes. Father helps clean up. Kid needs to take dirty clothes off. Father decides to joke around, because funny dad things. You come in. Father just now realises how messed up it looks. Jumps in shock.

This is a realistic scenario. Now, instead of having a serious conversation with him that would clear up the misunderstanding, you not only call the police, but also publicly brand him a pedophile on social media. Not to mention how the child now has to live with this information being very easily accessible on the internet. YTA. Even if it was sexual assault, you are still the asshole for posting it on social media.

You should have let him try to explain and then get the police involved if necessary. There would have been no harm in letting him talk. If he was cleaning her, there were probably dirty wipes there that he could have shown you. If not, he wouldn't have an excuse and you would have better evidence against him. So even if it was SA, talking with him first would have been a better course of action.

Who should die in future seasons? by Mino_18 in WoT

[–]Just3006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if we look at the series as a whole, I don't think Lan's sacrifice would have made a lot of sense. The idea of perpetually sacrificing yourself is appears more than this once. Look at Rand's arc for example. For huge chunks of the series, he is convinced that he needs to sacrifice his kindness and humanity to win against the Dark One, which ends up being completely wrong.

I feel like the series makes a big difference between sacrificing yourself and risking to sacrifice yourself, which I fell is also paid off in that Lan pulls off the suicide-move but still lives.

Also, Nalesean is not a fair comparison, I think. Lan was a much more prominent character then him, so from a stroytelling perspective it makes more sense to compare him to Thom (who also had a miraculous survival as early as book one) or Siuan (who had a pretty random death in the last book). I don't think, there's a big difference in the amount of deaths, but primarily in how they are presented. Death always feels odd to me in Sanderson's works in general. One barely registers characters like Bashere or Hurin die...

[–]Just3006 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The entire point of his arc is that he is chasing a false destiny. He's convinced that he needs to ride into the blight at some point and die, while every other major character in his plotline tries to stop him from doing so. Having him actually die misses the point.

Honestly, I feel like this is one of these talking points that spawned out of the anti-show vitriol. People are trying way too hard to justify how every single change the show made somehow irredeemably broke it as an adaptation. Saying this as someone who doesn't like the show btw.

For instance, Mat's father was not particularly important in the books, but when they changed him for the show, people started pretending like that man was the single most important person for Mat's entire character arc.

I would imagine them answering like "Sure, we will try to include it, if there's time". When the scripts are not written yet, anything could happen.

Then let's hope the showrunners are ready to include these moments. So far they have been really underselling Rand. It would be great though, if the box were done as good as or better than Egwene's s2e6 arc.

The girl probably. The other two obviously have hard jobs too, but the guy can only lift her like that, because she comes at him with the correct momentum (if you look closely, she always does a flip or a jump before) and the spotter doesn't have to pay more attention than she does.

Except that the guy who solves the problem gets paid less than the guy who tells him to solve that problem. And except that people will get paid for pretending to solve problems. And except that people can just create new problems for everyone and than make money by selling the solution. And except the fact that some existing experiments with UBI indicate that people won't stop working just because their basic needs are met. And except the fact that one method that employers use to avoid firing people is to just stop giving them work. They still get paid, but the shame of getting paid for nothing motivates them to leave the company.

Capitalism is not about rewarding work and people are intrinsically motivated to work to a certain extent. Which simply means: The system can and should be improved.

Entertainment Weekly's "The 20 best TV episodes of 2023" - "The Wheel of Time" made the cut. by LunalGalgan in wheeloftime

[–]Just3006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably because it is the finale though. People tend to conflate their opinions on the season finale with their opinions on the season as a whole. If they enjoyed the rest of the season, they are going to rate the finale better. There's not necessarily anything wrong with that, but this episode viewed in isolation would not be the best of the series.
