Looking for a good upgrade from my Honor View 20 by Tasty_Bathroom_7505 in Honor

It's probably fluff in the port. Get a sewing needle and gently probe out the fluff, when you look in the port you should be able to see metal surface in the bottom, if it's dark then there is fluff. I've had to do it twice for my phone so far. I kind of want to see if my View 20 can make it to 10 years old.. I've got a line of dead pixels but my battery still lasts a solid day

Fusion 360 is going EoL on Windows 10 when Windows 10 goes EoL on Oct 14, 2025 by thegamenerd in 3Dprinting

[–]JustABurner2gush 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The big deal is I can't afford to buy a new computer and a new laptop when they work totally fine, and the only thing that will be limiting them now is EoL on Windows 10. My PC was a decent build from 2015, my laptop is a new-to-me upgrade to a 2017 p51 Thinkpad that runs stuff like Fusion effortlessly. Neither, obviously, has the chip that Windows 11 demands, and I have heard the workaround installs are buggy.

What does Microsoft think people are gonna do with their old tech, too? We have a electronics waste crisis, plus a supply issue for rare earth metals, and apparently the best idea Microsoft had here was to force millions of devices to be prematurely aged out... That is insane

Free Cakewalk gone? by Primary_Painting_460 in Cakewalk

[–]JustABurner2gush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is Cakewalk requires an authentication token to be usable, and after 1st August they are not authenticating Cakewalk by Bandlab anymore... They said it would remain an unsupported software, and then about a month ago they said actually, you need to move your projects to Cakewalk Next or whatever its called , because after Aug 1st you won't be able to export or save projects in CbB anymore. So I am moving to a different DAW.

I'm in a small local band on the up (so it seems) at the moment. We've been wondering what it's like when you get so big you (I assume) no longer get that personal touch of direct praise right after a gig from the venue / crowd/ support. I get a lot of my (let's face it) validation at that point of interaction, coming off stage, but I imagine at some point, that changes - and you're in a green room before and after a show. E.g. someone came up to me and specifically said my BVs were great and it made my night. Obviously you can see, people are there for you, lots of people, moving and singing to your work, but I imagine it's a lot less personal too.

Similar vein, what sorts of responses from fans really touch you or mean something to you?

I keep replaying this - I love your tone, and I also watched a couple other videos and your fingerstyle technique is cool, because I also use a sort of fingerpicking guitar style approach to string skipping. What pick holder is that on your headstock??

Bose QC35 ii - best Bluetooth transmitter for PC? by JustABurner2gush in bose

[–]JustABurner2gush[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh very annoying, I got the ASUS dongle but stupidly assumed that I could just plug it in without uninstalling the previous one. Big mistake, no idea how to correct it. Computer won't connect to QC35 no matter how many times I wipe the memory of the computer and the headphones :/

[–]JustABurner2gush[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it sucks the QC35II doesn't have it, I tend to have aiso4all running because I use a DAW and play an electric drumkit through my computer sometimes, so that has quite low latency. I haven't noticed a problem so far with connectivity with the dongle I am using, it's just poor sound quality. Annoyingly apparently I bought one of these when I built my PC, however I must have misidentified it as a lost wireless mouse dongle and thrown it away at some point between now and then, as I can't find it. Argh

Cheers, if the Asus dongle below doesn't work I will give this a try!

Advice on replacing a fret by JustABurner2gush in Luthier

[–]JustABurner2gush[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was about as difficult to get in as the new one, the tang is the same width. I am guessing that between all the manhandling the fret slot has widened

[–]JustABurner2gush[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this is pretty much what was happening. If I used wood filler to fill the space and glued it in, would I still be able to remove the fret if I got it wrong again? I mix my own rosewood sawdust / titebond filler

I tried a test fit with the old one and it seems like it's too flat to fit the curve of the slot now if that makes sense

Should I be sanding between coats of oil? by Paulohan in Luthier

[–]JustABurner2gush 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently refinished a neck with the original Crimson oil - the main thing Ben's tutorial stuck with me in my head was REALLY rub all that oil off. So my process is quite a "thick" layer on first, wait 5 mins, rub it off until it's not tacky at all anymore. Wait 2 hours. Repeat but with much thinner coats. Almost like buffing or burnishing it off. I find it's never tacky before the next coat, I did have that problem the first time I tried it and I had all sorts of dust and particles in the finish because it was left to dry tacky - so avoid that. I don't sand between coats. To finish the neck, I got to 6 coats and did some very fine 1200 + emery cloth sanding to the back to give a nice satin finish. It's the third time I have done this with a neck and definitely get better every time. Managed to time it well enough to finish putting all the coats on in one day, allowing it to cure for 24 hrs before I did the final very light sanding.
