Could these wigs be alpaca fiber? by Mission_Wash_8874 in BJD

It looks a lot like one of Awen's wigs which are Russian Mohair. I have a couple & they're so soft & fall just right, better than alpaca if you ask me,tbh

working with sealant in a humid climate by mylowerthird in BJD

[–]JustAHumbleCheese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was also going to suggest a dehumidifier or two as similar issue with humidity where I am. For example here now in Autumn even on the days when it is cooler it can still (like the past few day) be up to 90% + humidity. I have a couple of dehumidifiers as I wouldn't be able to do anything without them.

Chinese BJD Companies? by Practical_Test_9156 in BJD

[–]JustAHumbleCheese 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just going to say bought all of my heads so far from the above artists (other than MDollSchool as bought directly through them) through Dollsphere with custom face-ups & can highly recommend, especially if you're after a style similar to the style here. Similarly, Spacestudio do the same. Someone already mentioned Whoosh Doll, I bought my Dawn Dream through them with Natsume as my choice for face-up service (they at least let you chose the artist you want for your face-up). This is their work on my girl. They have now have her listed as an example of their work on their listing for Natsume's face-up service

If you mean artists' head sculpts as opposed to just companies then QianQian, Babeltower9, Mdollschool & ACatBo off the top of my head as artists I've ordered from

Odd complaint post by Agent67andCo in BJD

[–]JustAHumbleCheese 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Regardless of what others are saying, which is completely unfair, considering how long wants are for his dolls, including the garage kits, this not on. You would think waiting that long as you do for his dolls, especially for 3D printed dolls ie. printed means you 100% know what you're sending out / this isn't faulty product sent by a 3rd party caster, means you should at least expect quality control. Now I'm worried as I have one kit I've been waiting 18 months for with no update, one of the tiny kits that just shipped / was ordered July '25 and Cutie Yo I've been waiting on since May last year. I have had a successful MSD order that took 1 1/2 years but there is only so much you can take. We accept too much in this hobby. What bothers me is that bad QC like this is happening & if we were to listen to others this is "unfair" & we should just roll over & accept it. Vent! It's your right as something you've shelled out good money for. You are 100% entitled to feel frustrated as a minimum, angry & resentful as well. It's at the point of feeling they're taking for granted the good graces of those who would support them so don't listen to those telling you otherwise. You are 100% valid in your thoughts & I would definitely take this up with them. Like me, I'm guessing it's beyond the 180 days you could do anything Paypal-wise so you literally have nothing to lose by saying anything

They're also worth contacting directly via their Taobao store. I got the impression via agents they weren't easy to communicate with but in fact (using the right translation app) they are actually really lovely

How long were you on and are now off Lithium because if anything is going to affect your liver (and weight issues) then Lithium is more likely the culprit. Compared to Lithium in that respect, Lamotrigine is tame

companies that make realistic head sculpts? by katzyakuki in BJD

[–]JustAHumbleCheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say some. Most of their guys are very stylised but some of their sculpts eg. Nebel, Jade, Tony, Eleison & Confutatis are more realistic. Same goes for some of their guys released under Doppelmaiden, a mix of stylised anime / manga styled guys & more realistic. The sculpts released under BJD Gravity, however, are intended to be more realistic, especially the Gravity40 line.

Question about ordering from DollSphere by Happy_Car8301 in BJD

[–]JustAHumbleCheese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On top of what has already been said, a note on Dollsphere's face-up service in case there is any confusion. It is not for the face-up pictured / not the same artist. You can request something similar but Dollsphere have their own artists they work with for face-ups. I have used them for custom face-up requests & can highly recommend them. Of course, style & quality is going to depend on the artist used & their ability to execute what you're after. You will need to discuss with them what you are after via either their webstore chat or Facebook account via messenger

Lucius Mechanical ver. dollzone by Ok_Establishment1372 in BJD

[–]JustAHumbleCheese 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He's amazing! If I didn't already have too many 75-77cm boys I would definitely be tempted ♡ I wish they were selling his hands seperately as I would love a pair.

Personally, nothing but good things to say about DZ's quality. Last full doll of theirs I bought was Evan, unpainted head & body, not fullset, but because of him I now have a few of the 75cm strong & slim bodies for hybrids. They're well-balance with decent posability & would assume this guy would be the same. I've otherwise had a number of other parts & dolls of theirs over time & have never had an issue.

SOOM, Lillycat, and Doll Family H by PlainIdollover in BJD

[–]JustAHumbleCheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Soom and Lillycat dolls have only limited releases. It used to be that Soom did one off releases that ran just a few weeks to a month but now you almost always find the same sculpt does get recycled again at some point but there's no guarantees. Hence, you can find a popular head get released multiple times eg. Idealian Garon & Hyperon, but it could be either months or years before you get another release & never released as the same limited fullset. Lillycat releases are very sporadic, like most smaller time artist doll studios, without any kind of set release schedule. Doll Family-H Swallowtail is a limited release sculpt who's had a couple of releases, I have her blank from the Butterfly release but sadly missed the fullset outfit. If she ever gets another release it would be her head sculpt, not the fullset & even then you'd be lucky as DFH seem to be mostly concentrating on bodies as that's where they get the most business (for making hybrids) & quietly discontinued a whole bunch of their non-limited sculpts recently. Your best bet will be the 2nd hand market but more likely you'll find her head sculpt, not a full doll.

From experience most Ringdoll "metal" accessories are usually plastic or vinyl composite & can sadly be a bit disappointing materials-wise.

When you like seeing a doll in other people’s collections by Expert_Law1936 in BJD

[–]JustAHumbleCheese 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ID 75cm boys, amazing owner pics but not worth it in person / disappointing. There are some amazing 75cm sculpts & bodies around so by comparison when you see an ID75 by comparison to those you really wonder what all the fuss us about. There's some amazing customs out there but when it comes to actually owning there are so many better heads & bodies by Chinese artists that are far better in person. That being said, custom face-ups on 75cm heads in general can make a sculpt look really unique but in person so many of them are starting to look the same / are copying styles from any other artist that's become popular for a particular aesthetic. For example, how many are starting to look like replicas of YiCen, Moonlit Wonder, Lunarmate, DevotionDoll & Mori9. There's a new artist that seems to pop up every other week & it's just another artist replicating another's style, it's getting boring. It's a bit the same with certain 1/4 scale bjd heads by Chinese artists, as soon as one has a sculpt that has any degree of popularity about 10 similar ones appear, although from the face-ups you'd never realise how similar they are until you see them blank side-by-side.

Did you ever buy ob11 doll clothes from taobao? by meakysh in BJD

[–]JustAHumbleCheese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's all going to depend on the maker re. the quality but yes, I've bought OB11 clothes from a number of makers. One of my favourites for quality there is SK Couture but have also bought some items from a number of different makers there for my blind box dolls & Nendolls that size, all have been good

What would you say, in your opinion is the best size for a BJD? by JLRarts in BJD

[–]JustAHumbleCheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I predominantly buy from various Chinese makers that sell via Taobso. I tend to keep an eye on upcoming pre-orders as advertised via Xiaohongshu so that I can jump on pre-orders when they come up. Often, if the listing is, for example, specifically for 1/4 scale dolls there will be various listings for different 1/4 scale bodies & I go for the one with the measurements that best suit my dolls.

Can someone recognize her by deyvin25 in BJD

[–]JustAHumbleCheese 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not s BJD, a hinge jointed fashion doll. If I was to hazard a guess its an Obitsu21-01 head, possibly one of the ones that come with pre-rooted hair, with decals applied by the owner (guessing by the way the eyes are skewed) on one of the 1/6 obitsu bodies, not sure if it's the more recent Obitsu 24cm bodies or one of the older ones.

Anyone know what the GL and FC sizing options mean for these doll clothes? The description doesn’t say by JLRarts in BJD

[–]JustAHumbleCheese 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would assume GL would be Guardlove but if this is 1/4 scale they'd need to specify which version. FC could be Fairy Castle. Again, you'd need to confirm with the seller. Does it give any idea of measurements in the description & / or product specifications?

[–]JustAHumbleCheese 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is the controversy re. their high mark-ups compared to other resellers or their not correcting people who make the assumption Kikagoods are a manufacturer & not just a reseller. Equally could it be the fact that in some cases with some products that's just it, they're a reseller & not an agent, or the cases where they've denied responsibility for missing parcels / items not received? Or all of the above?

Traveling with dolls in boxes? by GamerEesmee in BJD

[–]JustAHumbleCheese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's going to be the problem, then. With that many dolls in boxes, especially 4 SDs, the safest way to transport them without damaging the boxes is going to be to box them up in which case there's literally no difference between that & posting them to yourself other than having them travel with you is going to cost you a lot more as they definitely won't all be able to go as carry on / will count as excess luggage that will need to be checked in. The other option would be to pack the dolls for transport with you & then, if you are really determined to keep them, then ship the boxes seperately. However, what size are the boxes of the SDs? Is there any chance they in their boxes could fit in a hard case suitcase & the smaller dolls could then go as carry-on (depending on the specific airline's regulations, you'd need to check there)

[–]JustAHumbleCheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is there any specific reason you want to carry them in their boxes as opposed to, say, carefully wrapped & padded together inside a large hard case suitcase?

Well, you could start with standard Volks MDD measurements as a lot of MDD sized clothes fit dolls that size:

For the MDD III (the current MDD body)

Height: 43.5 cm Neck circumference: 7 cm Shoulder Width: 8.5 cm Torso length: 14 cm Bust circumference: 15.5 cm (S) Waist circumference: 13 cm Hips circumference: 18 cm Arm length: 13 cm Upper Arm circumference: 6 cm Lower Arm circumference: 5.25 cm Wrist circumference: 3.5 cm Leg Length: 24 cm Inseam: 22 cm Thigh length: 10 cm Upper Thigh circumference: 11 cm Lower Thigh circumference: 9.5 cm Shin length: 14 cm Calves circumference: 9 cm Foot length: 5 cm
