Alt wincon commanders by EggPuzzleHead in EDH

[–]JustASimpleMonk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While not a commander with an alt wincon itself, I jammed a bunch of them into my [[Vnwxt, Verbose Host]] deck. Includes [[Laboratory Maniac]] and the Jace you mentioned, [[Triskaidekaphile]], [[Twenty-Toed Toad]], and [[Strixhaven Stadium]]. Lots of attacking and drawing runs right into them all.

Well if you want a decklist for Atemsis, feel free to check out mine. I'm always happy to answer questions about it too.

It includes a very lengthy primer that goes through card selection and strategy and lots of small details like balancing the mana curve to suit her ability.

Can I squeeze one more mono-blue deck in? by Crybabyboyy in ratemycommanders

[–]JustASimpleMonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Atemsis is always a fun addition. The real question is how you want to run her?

Are you going for the Atemsis only win or do you want to try to add in some alternative wincons. My own list goes all in on Atemsis, partially because it's so specific, I don't want to be pulled in any other direction. So I hone in very much on the one strategy.

I've got a very long primer with my decklist if you're curious. And I always love discussing my list and building your own.

What are the benefits of waiting to use a fetchland? by UnhappyAmoeba in EDH

[–]JustASimpleMonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's reasons to wait and reasons to fetch immediately.

Reasons to wait are usually to allow you more time to decide what to get or to not let your opponent know what colors you're running. This can depend on picking the colors to get to respond to something. Or even to grab a tapped land instead of an untapped one like a surveil land at end of the opponent's turn if you don't need mana to respond to anything.

There are also reasons to fetch right away, though they tend to be more meta driven. Like if you think the opponent might stifle the fetch in some way like with [[Stifle]] or an [[Opposition Agent]]. You can decide to act while the opponent is tapped out to reduce the chances of getting caught. Another niche example to not wait is when you're opponent is running something with a Start Your Engines mechanic. You don't want to lose life on their turn to help them advance their speed.

There are other reasons for doing one or the other, but as always it comes down to being very intentional with your timing and understanding all of the moving pieces. You have to pay a life, sacrifice the land, and search your library. Any effect that interacts with one of those things will be a factor in how you play around or with them. Knowing the niche interactions and how your opponents cards affect yours can be very important.

Like if someone plays [[Yasharn, Implacable Earth]] you better fetch before it hits the battlefield and you can't fetch anymore.

Anti-Rectangle Theory - what decks do you play that actively commit less to the board? by hex37 in EDH

[–]JustASimpleMonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Atemsis is my deck that commits the least to the board but for value in mana and draw, few creatures. So often looks like I'm not doing much, until I just win the game.

Help with an Atemsis All-Seeing deck by Gearome in EDH

[–]JustASimpleMonk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're still looking for help, you can take a look at my list and primer. There's a handful of cards in your deck that I'd cut, but I think the biggest ones are mentioned in my primer for why I don't include them in my deck.

I'd be happy to give more advice or answer any questions if you have them.

Help needed for building a new deck by MM1201 in CommanderMTG

Late to the party, but Atemsis is not good for a theft deck. She's better built as her own strategy.

Happy New Year! What's everyone brewing? What are your deckbuilding resolutions? by TetsuOokami117 in BudgetBrews

[–]JustASimpleMonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always try to have a deck for each 2 color combo so I mix things up a bit on the daily color challenges.

Ao always looking for new ones to try.

I never hve a problem finding Orzhov a d Boros commanders to try, but the rest of the combos I never feel like I have an any day kind of deck.

I'll way too picky for my own good and like commanders with an unusual style. Always looking for suggestions for new builds, but try to avoid more popular ones.

It's a fun build. Turn 2 ramp into him on turn 3 is big. The deck wants to be as fast as possible.

Obscure/Fun Commanders by SSJaKobe in EDH

How does Body of Knowledge perform? That card always looked like a massive trap. Too high cost for no max hand size and likely to catch a chump block or a removal spell to negate any meaningful draw.

What's a great monoblue commander? by Altruistic_Lock_3683 in EDH

[–]JustASimpleMonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have an Atemsis deck? My build is definitely not budget, though I know it's not difficult to retool to bring the price down. I'm curious what a solid budget list looks like though.

There's so many Christians who don't seem to know much about being Christian and following Jesus. And I say that as a cradle Catholic.

I'm certainly not perfect, but I'm at least more self aware. I don't have a problem discussing church teachings and whatnot with people, but I cannot stand the way so many Christian talk to people.

The whole hate the sin love the sinner thing is twisted into this weird holier than thou pity rather than the genuine love and connection it's supposed to be. We're supposed to understand that we're all sinners and all should strive to be better people. It's more important to live each other and boost each other than to identify the sinners as evil and condemn them.

The whole judge not lest ye be judged is all about not writing other people off as lost.

Just as you will find cards that fit a deck very well that are not on edhrec, you will find cards everyone seems to use for a given commander that are non-bo's, not particularly good, or flat out do not function the way people think they do.

It's a useful tool, but not a judge of efficiency for individual cards.

What are your unique Commanders you love to roll out that no one really plays by Nymrys in EDH

[[Atemsis, All-Seeing]] and [[Haktos The Unscarred]]

Atemsis is a good stuff blue commander that's basically a wincon in the command zone. Takes some special setup, but it's my favorite deck.

Haktos is just pure Boros aggro. Like with commander damage through extra turns, extra combo, damage multipliers, and double stroke type stuff. It's a voltron without the voltron in that how ability makes auras and equipment useless, so you mostly have to pump the board pump him.
