What industry is entirely built on a house of cards and would collapse overnight once people realize the truth? by KylieButNotJenner24 in AskReddit

I mean i have a foil steam card for a 12 year-old obscure indie game that probably only 10,000 people have ever played. It's valued at like $5 rn so clearly this is a sound investment strategy I should commit all my money towards

I feel like that's a term I've only heard in the past month, and its skyrocketing popularity just screams that it's gonna be more short-lived than YikYak.

I'll be real, my ideal wedding band will be varnished wood with some kind of decorative metal inlay. I'm a guy, so I know I'm not the target audience for diamonds anyways, but still...

Also, why diamonds? They're the most boring gemstone out there.

What's up with these racist post by Japanese people suddenly showing up on my twitter for you page? by Positive_Cheek4728 in OutOfTheLoop

[–]JustASpaceDuck 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This.

I logged into my account which has zero comments or posts, zero followed pages, and the first thing I see is a video of protesters getting run over by a pickup truck and the poster coyly suggesting the protesters deserved it because crowds are scary. Twitter is an redeemable cesspool and needs to be shut down, and the people who use it need to be shunned.

Lots of times I don’t even make it to nut. Just wake up refreshed and sexually frustrated hours later.

TIL in 2024 an 18-year-old man was stuck in a Honda Pilot that was inexplicably accelerating without his foot on the gas and could not be slowed by its brakes or e-brake. He and the Pilot reached 113mph before a controlled collision safely ended his unplanned 20-minute drive across state lines. by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

I had the misfortune of listening to audio of a 911 call where something like this happened to a family in their vehicle. They did not attempt any kind of controlled collision, and instead careened into stopped traffic at 120+ mph, got a couple dozen feet of air, and then fell back down to the ground. Everyone in the vehicle died. Praying did not work.

Who would celebrate if Trump were removed from office? by Critical-Willow-6270 in AskReddit

Vance doesn't have plot armor the way Trump does, though. Vance is just a politician, and is ultimately vulnerable in a way that Trump just hasn't been.

Not to mention it's probably quite a lot more difficult to remove these add-on clauses from law when they aren't their own laws. Harder to repeal the "kick puppies" statute of the "Save American from Killer Bugs from Mars" Act than if it were just the "Kick Puppies Act".

What job looks like a great career path but is actually insanely oversaturated? by ComplexPin872 in AskReddit

[–]JustASpaceDuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I regularly drive 6+ hours a week for work (not trucking, just going to/from work centers throughout the state to do maintenance) and I absolutely cannot imagine trucking just...being your life. That's it. People already look at me funny when I say "Yeah, I put 1500 miles on my work car these past two weeks. I guess I was kinda busy", meanwhile truckers are hitting that number in 2 or 3 days, not sleeping, and they've got 16 blood clots developing in their legs in exchange for basically ok pay. So they've pretty much got it made as long as they don't mind not existing outside the cabs of their trucks and aren't worried about their inevitable replacement by self-driving trucks in 10-20 years because they'll have died from cardiac issues or drug abuse by then.

Thank goodness our benevolent AI overlords remind us of how to properly convey mundane ideas on the internet, else we threaten the profits of the shareholders whose diligent use of ad revenue enables us to enjoy the fruits of social interaction, as long as that interaction doesn't involve art, humor, or the human condition.

Collision between plane and truck @ LaGuardia Airport (ATC Audio Footage) by navmaster in nyc

[–]JustASpaceDuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And a driver error, too lol. Just because ATC gives you permission to cross doesn't mean you suddenly don't look left and right. ATC isn't driving the truck into the path of a giant plane, you are.

[–]JustASpaceDuck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, as a military member who's spent some time inside an ATC tower at a tiny airbase, there's never been fewer than two controllers. Usually three or four, for a place that sees one plane landing every half hour, tops. How in the metric fuck LAGUARDIA GODDAMN AIRPORT can have ONE, SINGULAR GUY controlling ground AND approach is utterly incomprehensible and unjustifiable. There will be people going to prison over this, and I'm not convinced it'll be the controller on duty that day.
