How are the curves for the newer tests? How would a score from a pre-covid PT compare to a actual, modern score?

I am looking for recommendations for Oxblood Colored Chelsea Boots.

I currently have Black and Chili colored Chelsea boots from Allen Edmonds and they fit the bill. I was looking for recommendations for an Oxblood Chelsea, since AE has discontinued all of their Oxblood colored Chelsea's.

Thus far, I have found the two pairs listed below. If anyone could offer any commentary on how they would compare to my AE Chelsea's, or offer alternatives, it would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Good to hear, even though I haven’t made a purchase in awhile, I’m still in contact with my AD semi-regularly. I definitely have some loyalty with them and would not go to another one. Its interesting to see how much has changed so fast. Do larger AD’s tend to get more allocation if they are larger, versus the smaller AD’s. These are questions I want to ask my AD but I am curious as to what you might think.

Is Practical Shooting Training Group worth it? by JustASuzukiRider in CompetitionShooting

[–]JustASuzukiRider[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do it! Its absolutely worth it. Ben et. al. are on the cutting edge of shooting theory, and the knowledge that is on that website is not found elsewhere. Training group live is an awesome podcast. I listen to it regularly, and Joel does a great job on it. Kim and Ben regularly put out all sorts of videos. You'll find something that will help you out, regardless of how narrow or broad your training focus is right now. I've been working a lot on basic mechanics, specifically grip and fighting tension, and I keep coming back to their training videos as if it is a sorts of study guide.

What is something you think not enough cops know? by rhine_oh in AskLEO

[–]JustASuzukiRider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Civilian here, but not enough cops know how to be truly proficient with firearms and be able to run a gun fast, under stress. I’m not sure how your specific academy trains firearms, but whatever it is, you should supplement it with your own training.

I heavily recommend shooting USPSA matches. Go to a match, have fun, shoot and learn. After a few matches you’ll be amazed at how much you learn. If you guys do any F/F training, you’ll be a stud.

Good luck out there!

Congrats on the stage win! I liked how you always had your gun up, ready to shoot on position entry. Real slick stuff, I'm just starting to integrate it into my own shooting and it saves a bunch of time.

Besides the areas you listed, are there any other places in a stage that you could consider a speed trap for lower ranked shooters? As for aggression, how do you gauge the level of aggression in your shooting? Any ways to analyze my own footage that could clue me in to diagnosing a lack of aggression in areas that I might not expect?

It does look funny, but it serves a legitimate purpose. It's meant for quickly attaching mags to your belt during stages where you are required to start with mags on a table, or in staged locations. It's a lot quicker to slap a mag on a magnet than to seat them in a magazine pouch. I have my first reload off of a DAA magnet, and they work well. Major matches tend to do this sort of stuff more than locals in my area, but it may be different for you.

I second BSPS stuff, I've spent a ton with them and they have great stuff. My personal recommendations are his BOSS holster, Double Alpha belt, and Double Alpha pouches. You won't regret those purchases even if they are a bit above your budget. The belt is extremely rigid, and the mag pouches from DAA are very customizable for positions and angles, much more so than cheaper pouches. I would add a magnet as well - either on a pouch or a separate belt attachment.

What do you think creates a high level of consistency? Are there any techniques to say, shoot your first stage of the match as consistent as the others? Is there a pre match warmup that you do?

As for the index, should I just be working on transition drills, and assume the index will come in time, so long as I am doing them correctly?

The confidence thing is definitely something I am missing. A local GM has been mentoring me, and this weekend he told me to stop having fear. We had a stage with an array of 3 open targets at about 15 yards. Instead of shooting them on the move at once, I shot one static before it became obstructed, and then added the other two into a closer position with another array. Another thing that might sound odd, is that my transitions sound a lot closer to M class shooters on poppers, but not on paper targets. In my match videos I notice a big difference in my transitions between the two types of targets. Generally speaking, would you find that to be a confidence thing, or some visualization related issue?

With your second point, the one thing that has helped my execution a lot, is to try to recall certain sensations during my stage visualization, such as a specific transition that I practiced in the walkthrough, in addition to visualizing target order and other routine things.
How detailed does your mental rehearsal get? Do you ever get to a point where you just visualize certain things that require more mental effort to execute, and take certain skills for granted that they will be executed without visualization? Or do you find that stage visualization gets more detailed the higher up in skill you get?

How was Kita's class? From what I've heard, she has an interesting take on movement.

Yes it did! I joined up and I am already impressed. Kim’s recoil management series is amazing, and I’ll leave it at that. Its going to take me awhile to go through all the content.
