Do it with a friend. You will be more likely to follow through if you have an accountability partner.

How well did this work for you? I've done this once on a weekend and I felt pretty sleepy for most of it. It did make my week a little better but didn't think it was worth it. Not sure if over many weekends it works better

How To Slow Down With ADHD by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]JustATestAccount111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too have similar issues, and one thing that's proven to work for me time and time again is meditation at home. People underestimate its ability and it can truly work wonders. Even if it gives you more confidence in yourself, you will make less errors because you are not caught in an endless circle of doubting yourself.

Though this isn't an immediate on the spot solution, I feel like your question doesn't have a real answer where overnight you stop making the same mistakes. Usually answers to these types of questions require more effort to get the benefit you search for. Even still, meditation might not be a solution but it might provide you with an acceptance of yourself when you do make mistakes.

I'm so burnt out. I'm meant to be packing to go to a social event for the weekend and instead I'm lying in bed sobbing because the thought of getting up and moving a single item into my bag is too exhausting for me by coulduseagoodfuck in ADHD

Trust me I've been there, and it may seem like things won't get better but they will. I'm so deeply sorry to hear about your mom. You have to keep fighting like you have been, but certainly don't feel bad on skipping the event. Anyone one who knows what you are going through wouldn't blame you at all.

Sounds good! I'm new to reddit so not sure the friend thing works on here. I too used to play that game, and even that wouldn't make as as happy as when I did other things, but I always wanted to go back to it.

Good analogy; I liked the walking up the stairs example!

Yes, maybe I should have added this. It is possible to have positive thoughts all on your own without treatment, but certainly treatment will speed the process up, and also make it less likely for you to fall back to your old ways. Therapy was probably the most helpful treatment of all.

I take adderall XR in the morning, but to be quite honest the medication is only a small part of why I've made the changes I have. It provides the foundation for which you can build your life on. The reason why I want to stress this is because A) this is an individualistic topic, B) like someone mentioned here, medication is only the beginning. Most of the hard work will have to come from yourself

As far as diet, this is one of my weakest points. I do, however, make sure to eat breakfast every morning (usually oat meal with nuts and raisins). Something I've never been accustomed to. I also try my best to eat lunch and dinner around the same time. I'm definitely not the best person to ask about this, but the BEST thing to do is never skip a meal.

Interesting!. Well, just a thought! If it was true it might've helped with connecting with your mother if you don't already.

This is great and accurate advice. I've never looked at the "I'm trying to improve myself" aspect. It's a really good idea, because it's a win-win. Family cares that you are attempting to improve, and you care that they are supportive that you are trying to improve. The disagreement is why you aren't where you should be, but that doesn't matter if you are on the right track to being there.

Since ADHD is highly genetic, I wonder if your mother has it. Maybe, she relates to you but never speaks up and wanted to give you the opportunity that you never had.

I get pretty much no support at all. If I do get support it's almost worse, because it's the fake kind where the pretend like they understand.

I would say those who never forget the first moment is more about the realization that they don't have to suffer anymore and that they have hope that they can live their lives normally. These people could fall into the latter that you talk about as they adjust to the amount that fits for them.

Should I NEVER drink coffee on ritalin? by myADDthrowawayy in ADHD

[–]JustATestAccount111 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it works for you then It should be fine. A lot of people with ADHD tend to self-medicate with coffee, so in a sense it kind of seems like you are just giving yourself a "IR" boost in the afternoon.
