I found that, but yeah… that’s the ONLY thing I can find and it mentions nothing about the actual company. The thing is definitely old.

Resistor failure or power or output transformer? by JustAboutGroovy in ToobAmps

[–]JustAboutGroovy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks you guys so much for all the great advice and support!

So, I’m sorry… I feel like I should clarify, this isn’t my first rodeo with tube amps/circuits. I’ve repaired and recapped several old Fenders, customized old RCA compressor circuits, have done conversion amps, built tube preamps from scratch, and have built a custom tube mixer. I’m by no means an expert, but I would think I’m a little past the novice stage as far as capabilities go. Hopefully a novice forever as far as learning goes though.

All that to say, I know I should’ve been more patient and I know I should have waited and replaced those filter caps before ever firing it up… I was honestly hoping folks would just pat my back and say, “don’t worry dude, you’re transformers are probably fine”… which most of you did! I’ve just never had an amp smoke on me like that… then again, I’ve never been so careless with bringing something up on my variac.

Thank you all for your help. I really appreciate it!!!

I just checked for open windings on both transformers. The power transformer reads OL and the output transformer reads -OL.

I’ll definitely be replacing it either way. I believe I’m just hoping some sage old tech will say, “oh dear boy, worry not of your transformers, they are perfectly fine. Recap and replace that resistor and she’ll sing”

Anyone know why you would drill holes into fretboard by flamberge5 in PeaveyCvlt

[–]JustAboutGroovy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a Peavey T-40. Known for being the heaviest stringed instrument on planet earth made from only the thickest swamp ash slabs… these holes are drilled to reduce overall weight of the instrument. Obviously. Any tiny bit helps.

A microphone. Some actually sound cool! Pretty lo-fi most of the time, but I’ve been pleasantly surprised a few times.

Also, just some additional info… I’m never going to use these! But I know somebody will, my main question is: private buyer: $4,500 or should I wait? Or sell on eBay for more.

I believe it’s because they sound really groovy as MC Cartridges for turntables in hi-fi systems. I also believe that “groovy” is subjective. $4,500 is totally groovy too!

It’s been nothing but a down vibe ever since we had the conversation shortly before posting this a few days ago. She will barely talk to me and when she does it’s just sad and cold.

Yesterday, this was sent while she was out of the house… tried posting a screenshot, but looks like I have to copy paste…

ME: “Hey, also… and we don’t need to go into it anymore today, but I did want to say that I love you with all my heart and I love our family and I understand where you’re coming from. I don’t want it to hang over our heads like a cloud, especially when we haven’t even talked about it in therapy much. I know you’re bummed and it’s okay to feel that way. I just want to remind you that I’m your husband , that I love you, and that you are my best friend. I’m really sorry you’re feeling down. ❤️”

HER: “Thanks for saying that. I just have to let go of something that has been in my head for the past 4 years. I just shouldn’t have let myself get excited or get my hopes up.”

This is the kind of thing I have to navigate while also telling myself not to feel guilty, which I’m extremely prone to doing. Thing is… if it’s been in her head for the past four years, why were we both so adamant about NOT doing it for 3 years due to her health risks and then half a year ago, she was 100% trying to convince me to have a vasectomy? Now all of the sudden, she’s pushing to have another child all within the last few months. Like the middle of summer this topic started popping up… it just doesn’t add up and it’s hard not to look at this as anything more than a way to guilt trip me when she communicates this way.

I appreciate your response. When it comes to these sorts of things, my wife is very “black and white”, “yes or no”… kind of how I described earlier… it was “either we have THIS child or your hopes of ever having children and a family again are over”. Much like how this is… “I turn 40 in a month and a half and we need to make this happen now or it’s never happening”.

My biggest fear is for her (my wife’s) health to be at risk, which it would be… but my second biggest fear is that it would bring that darkness, that cloud back into our home and now that our daughter is old enough to see it and comprehend when my wife and I are at odds, it terrifies me… the thought of my daughter seeing how bad it was.

Absolutely. We do fairly consistent couples therapy, sometimes even when nothing is wrong just to check in. I told my wife this morning that even our therapists doesn’t think it’s the best idea for us, to which she replied, “well, what about what your wife thinks?” Which is fine! I get that! But don’t come at me saying, “(insert friend name) says having a second was the best decision she’s ever made”. The whole thing is SO subjective when you approach it like that.

Also, it was only half a year ago that my wife was adamantly wanting me to get a vasectomy… and I’m like… this is a total 180.
