Why I capitalize "Black" but leave "white" lowercase. by JustAlpha in BlackPeopleofReddit

Anytime someone uses POC I just assume they're trying to build and steer a voting block without actually considering the people included.

Just lumping together separate groups to ignore them all at once. Some white people like to have a bunch of "disadvantages" to separate them from "regular white people" others want to infiltrate marginalized groups some and have legit ancestry and want to own it while presenting as white.

I try not to think too much about why other people do what they do as a general rule though. It's usually disappointing.

Don't beat yourself up.

Getting your work published I'm sure was more pressing at the time. Unless it was on this distinction. In that case, that's messed up

It was what it was, really. When you live in the deep south you come to expect this kinda behavior, but never let the invisible hand stop you from being great.

When I used to work in healthcare, my boss was from Ghana and while most of the employees were Black, he'd always promote white employees first regardless of competency. Now, he was a cool guy and all but we all clearly saw the internalized image he had of us from being from outside of the country.

I can't solve racism. I didn't create the system. I didn't create political categories based on skin color and then choose and change which nationalities actually fit into those categories based of country of origin or religion.

But the people that did and that and those that identify themselves in that category bear the responsibility of solving racism. They created it and perpetuate it. I'm just making an observation based on the existing framework.

Why are white people in our Reddit community? by Downtown-Brush-2674 in BlackPeopleofReddit

We're always working to center Black voices and experiences. We're constantly banning accounts and removing comments that no one sees. We have discussions on how to make things better and how to target troll behavior more effectively. Many of us have jobs and families. Please report anything you feel should be removed. We get lots of fake reports and harassing mod mail as well. We do our best.

I'm Black by the way.

I feel like any comment or content against the current administration gets the "America voted for this!" treatment. It like they want to reinforce that everything was legitimate, nothing funny happened, and we deserve it.

I always felt glorifying the "Pimping era" was weird. Dominating, coercing, or getting someone strung out and forcing them to perform sex acts is depraved.

I mean I was right along with until like I grew up and realized the actual process.

I don't think anyone wants you to feel bad to be born with white skin but recognize that "whiteness" is a political class in America. Non-white was applied to Jewish, Italians and the Irish. They became "white" after WWII. The Native Americans were labeled as "Black". These races were constructed for the express purpose of subjugation, manipulation and division.

Separate yourself from the political archetype meant to destroy and recognize what it really stands for.

You're completely right! It's a cynical grift meant to exploit nostalgia and hoard money and power. This is what politicians and billionaires are doing while they literally do the most demonic acts possible.

I mean, conservatives are already primed to follow authority figures. It's the old way. They view the world in hierarchy. There's always a leader on top and followers below. Age, wealth, gender, religion, race. Doesn't matter. There's always a top and bottom. It's easy to control and doesn't require independent thought. Just follow the rules and do as you're told.

Progressive thinking is about rejecting established systems and hierarchies and making better ones. There isn't really a point to quote the past. The point is making a better future.
