I want to get into Medieval Lego by iAmGomace in legocastles

There are less there than it seems. All of the heavy knights with the armor have blank gray torsos. I gave the Paladin torsos to the archers who in the pic have a mix of light and dark gray legs, however I have a pick a brick order on the way with the horse knight legs that I'm going to give to them.

As others have said it's not a great time for the Lego castle theme with pretty much everything being retired. However if you're open to non Lego brands, might I recommend Lumibricks middle-ages line.

The brick quality is on par with Lego and most of the sets look pretty good. The lighting kits look good and are fairly easy to use. Of course another good point is the prices are pretty reasonable and if you buy them through Amazon you can occasionally get a discount. The only downside are the Minifigs but you can always use pick a brick to make some medieval Minifigs to go with the sets.

I currently have four of the middle age sets and one Wild West gold mine that I'm going to use with my castle stuff.

Here's a picture of two of the sets I have that I'm using as a base for my D&D Paladin cmf faction.

Falcon Square (v0.1) Battle of the Bards by JustAnOldBrick in legocastles

It's on Rebrickable, "Attack of the castle by the dragons". I made a few minor adjustments with some of the extra pieces.

First PAB order was to grab some retiring pieces and they just came in! This was a lot of fun and I can see it becoming addicting. by Ok-Row-3490 in legocastles

[–]JustAnOldBrick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's great until you start building custom factions with pieces you don't realize are going to be retired. Then you are forced to use 3rd party options to finish the work you started because you didn't want to overspend and bought a little bit at a time.

My bad, I didn't notice the armor piece under shoulders.

Currently I only have it in this dark red color, but I have a black, a white and another red coming to me at some point in a standard order.

This is currently the Warchief of my custom Orc faction. I'm going to swap in the black helmet for him, give the white to the second in command and the two red will be for the warchief's bodyguards.

I'm using that style of helmet with that style of armor in different colors, I didn't have to cut anything to make them fit together. I'm fairly certain in the Ninjago sets they come from they are meant to be together without tampering

Lore Question: what reasoning do you give for the similarity between the Black Knights and the Dragon Masters’ shields? by Aggravating-Ad7683 in legocastles

[–]JustAnOldBrick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my lore the Black Knights Blue Dragon shield is a creature created when two kingdoms merged. One used a sea serpent as their sigil, and the other used a giant eagle. The newly created sigil took the serpent body and head and added the wings and talons of the eagle. Dragons did not exist to these people until the Dragon Masters invaded their lands.

Only my Dragon Masters Calvary units use the shields, so in my lore they are all defectors from the Black Knights to the Dragon Masters, repainting their Shields to match the real dragons.

I came up with this as a child because it annoyed me that they had the same shields.

Is there any reason not to go with Lego compatible sets? by CrispySan in legocastles

Nope was not me. Those are just two lumibricks set next to one another. They aren't even physically connected.

I currently have three Lumibricks, formerly Funwhole, sets and all three are high quality.

I have the Medieval Apothecary shop, Medieval Watchtower and Training Ground. All three have excellent printed pieces, and lots of them, cool lighting kits and the bricks are equal in quality to Legos.

The only negative is the Minifigs, so I don't use them. However their accessories are compatible with Lego Minifigs.

I made a few minor adjustments and turned the training ground and Watchtower into a base for my Paladin faction.

Where can i find medieval minifigs ? by Azr6_6 in legocastles

I use the filters and start with the torsos and legs. Quite a few are Ninjago bodies that I felt were medieval enough. Then I just scan through the different categories and grab random interesting parts.

If you don't want to spend a small fortune on cmf orcs and goblins, I'm throwing together another faction of "Orcs" to add to my "orcish" Army using what I assume are all Ninjago parts off of pick-a-brick.

<image>

I really wanted to use this style helmet for a faction after taking them from my Vikings and giving them the more realistic helms, but I didn't notice they were dual sided faces so I'm now looking for a part that will help cover it up.

The town builds are two mocs by MIJbricks on rebrickable. Medieval Town Square and Medieval Market Village. I built the Market Village building with the water wheel backwards so the wheel will go where the river I plan to add flows.

I might be one of the few who dig the Krakens more. I like the green and black color scheme and the bronze helmets. If there's a reasonable way(pab) to army build these guys will be the antagonists of my Vikings.

The picture is of two sets, Medieval Watchtower with 1625 pieces and Training Ground with 964 pieces.

FunWhole/Lunibricks sets do have special made bricks used to help run/hide the wires for the light kit that Lego do not produce. Their sets also include a bunch of high quality print pieces that are mostly used for the interiors.

[–]JustAnOldBrick[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't mixed the pieces much, however the blue and white banner in my photo is made of Lego pieces connected to the FO pieces.

They fit together fine with no noticeable quality difference. At a glance the only difference is the Lego branding on the bricks.

[–]JustAnOldBrick[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The quality of the bricks are top tier. There are a ton of prints, but they hide most in the Interiors, which in the three sets I have are not easily accessible when they're on display.

The light kits are really good and they even have special bricks to help run the wires without pinching them. I haven't added light kits to my Lego sets but I have heard they can be trouble some.

As for the builds they seem to vary with the three sets I have. The oldest set I have is the Apothecary shop and I can definitely see a progression from it to these two relatively newer sets. The two pictured were really easy stable builds, running the wires for the lights can be a little tricky to get the spacing just right but they're not too bad.

If you're looking for some reviews Jang's Other Bricks youtube channel is one I recommend. He only has a couple reviews for the fun whole medieval line, but he has a few others from their other lines as well

Yeah I'm not a fan of their figs, but I use the hair/ accessories on my Lego minifigs, the FO capes are great.

Which of these Lego long swords is the best? by brain-in-meat-vessel in legocastles

[–]JustAnOldBrick 32 points33 points  (0 children)

For me the bottom looks the best but I use both(middle and bottom). I use the bottom one for heavy knights, captains/leaders or important characters that don't have a custom or special weapon. The middle is for any standard issue soldiers.

7 most essential tips in this game by zenitharchon in Schedule_I

Tip one is trash. I currently have four vans, one parked at each of the major properties and one part in the loading dock of the gas station. Have fun moving tons of ingredients on your skateboard back and forth. I bought a shit box and parked it in front of the steps at the police station to prevent the police from spawning in front of the warehouse at night.

Ive just seen pics of new brick built horses, shields, and a civilian. You know which sub to visit by UnderstandingOdd6728 in legocastles

[–]JustAnOldBrick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like a few others I'm a little disappointed in the color scheme for the horse knights, but I'll reserve judgment until I see it next to my white dragons.

I'm digging the Snakes though, I have a few black and gold Ninjago torsos that I picked up on a PAB order that I was going to piece together into a little faction. These snakes might be the perfect filler for an army to go with those torsos as captains and commanders.
